Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-20/disability-pensioners-may-be-reassessed-kevin-andrews/5400598

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

ref my previous post #926:

Australia’s non-refoulement obligations under international human rights law exist regardless of whether a person is entitled to non-refoulement protection under the refugees convention.....

You whinge about C & P on these threads so to save you pain I suggest you go research following Conventions so you are up to speed with the rest of the posters here and indeed the rest of the informed Australian's amongst us:

Just for start-erers, suggest you research and read following:

*SAR - International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue

*SOLAS - The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea

You will find the answers to many of your questions Smiley Happy

...or perhaps you could email Mr Scott Morrisons office and ask his legal beagles - I have it on good authority that they will know the answersSmiley LOL

monboy seems better suited to a person who can't bring himself to utter the name of an earlier prime minister because she was a single woman from the Labor side.  How utterly childish.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

even gets a slap from a UK tory...hahahahaha

Tony Abbott's government is 'recklessly endangering' the future on climate, says UK chief

Tony Abbott’s plan to axe the carbon price this week has come in for some withering criticism from his own side of politics, with a former head of the UK’s Conservative Party declaring it to be an “appalling” move that “recklessly” endangers the future.

Lord Deben, who served in Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s cabinet and is now chairman of the independent UK Committee on Climate Change, said the Abbott government “appears to be more concerned with advancing its own short-term political interests” than dealing with global warming.

hahahahahahahahhhhaaahhahah.....

1:34pm: In the Senate, the carbon tax repeal debate rocks on.

Labor's Helen Polley says that on climate change, Tony Abbott is like the kid in the class who does not understand what is going on but wants to distract everyone else.

He should "sit in the corner and eat Play-Doh and leave this to [the others]".

This comes as the chair of the independent UK Committee on Climate Change Lord Debenhas declared Abbott's plan to axe the carbon tax as "appalling" and reckless.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

laugh out loud stuff...

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/08/shinzo-abe-addresses-parliament-for-historic-trade-deal...

In an interview with David Speers, Clive Palmer has reconfirmed he will still block the government's plan to abolish the school kids bonus and the low income super contribution.

Palmer says if the government does not agree to the changes, PUP will split the measures from the mining tax and force the government to keep the two Labor measures.

When it was suggested Abbott has a mandate to abolish the school kids bonus and the low income super contribution, which he took to the last election, Palmer says:

We have a mandate too and we will be exercising our mandate more often.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Another good article from Independent Australia.... a sample of said article follows

http://www.independentaustralia.net/environment/environment-display/the-ipa-and-waubra-foundations-c...

The really great thing is that the IPA has been given charitable status. That's right, the IPA has somehow weaselled its way into being granted 'deductible gift recipient' status by the ATO –  so that any donation to it is tax deductible!

Professor Clive Hamilton explains how these blatant spin doctors hoodwinked the authorities:

In 1987 the IPA restructured itself as a company limited by guarantee, which means that its directors are not liable for any debts it might incur. The restructure enabled it to apply to become an Approved Research Institute (ARI) and thus be eligible for endorsement as a deductible gift recipient (DGR). In other words, donors to the Institute would be able to claim a tax deduction for their donations. DGR status is the most valuable asset of an organisation like the IPA because without it virtually no-one would donate.

The IPA’s media savvy guarantees a positive sound bite and millions of dollars of free publicity as a ‘credible commentator’.

The most egregious example of this is the use of taxpayer-funded ABC as a vehicle.

How often does the IPA appear on ABC's The DrumQ&A7.30Lateline and ABC Radio National to hammer home its paymasters’ agendas? That’s wall-to-wall media exposure for starters. Not a bad return on your investment?

A good example of this, as I have written, was when former IPA pin-up boy Tim Wilson stormed the airwaves trying to scare the public witless about the Gillard Government’s audacious plain packaging plan.

So, when the IPA are out there spinning the facts on climate change, tobacco or GMO foods, we, the taxpayers, are subsidising the service through tax-deductions for IPA’s donors as well as providing free carriage of their message on our taxpayer-funded ABC.

But we don’t even know the exact tax-leaners for whom the IPA are spin-doctoring, since the IPA guarantees anonymity.

The Abbott government has taken us into a whole new territory as a result of disregarding Australian human rights obligations under international and domestic law.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

well, what a refreshing surprise Mr Muir has been so far....

Senator Ricky Muir breaks away to deny Abbott government Senate vote on carbon tax repeal

Rookie senator Ricky Muir broke away from his Palmer United Party voting bloc on Wednesday to deny the government a speedy vote on the repeal of the carbon tax.

The government on Wednesday moved an urgent motion in the Senate to gag debate on the carbon tax repeal bills and force a vote, but the Motoring Enthusiast Party senator voted with other crossbench senators, Nick Xenophon and John Madigan, and Labor and the Greens to ensure further debate on the bills.

The stumble for the government came after Senator Muir threw up his second surprise in 24 hours. On Tuesday, Senator Muir became the unexpected champion of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), which the government also plans to abolish.

Senator Muir is seeking amendments that would block cuts to ARENA's contained in the carbon tax repeal bill.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

This government is giving a whole new meaning to gag debate. They just shut it down and refuse to allow any discussion.  They shut down question time early and shut down senate committees early.  They are just bully boys who want their own way whatever the cost.
