As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Guess who doesn't like competition.
I love it when poor old rupert complains.
He's nothing but an interfering old busybody who for some weird reason thinks he should be able to control the world, like a pathetic version of a James Bond villian.

In response to questions from ArtsHub the Ministry for the Arts stated, โThere was no funding round or open application process.'
The one-off grant was approved by Minister Brandis but wasnโt formally announced, either by the Arts Ministry or by Minister Brandis himself. The first official mention of the grant is an obscure Attorney-Generalโs Department spreadsheet that lists the Federal Departmentโs grants register.
The Attorney-Generalโs Department documentation shows that the grant was dated the 16 April 2014 โ before the May budget. However the Melba Recordings grant did not make it into the Budget Papers. The funding is also not listed in any of the Ministryโs media releases this year, or in the Arts Ministryโs news archive.

This is what Rupert's been telling the world. What the?? What money??
on โ20-09-2014 09:41 AM
I just found out what money. It's the first I've heard of it
Why, for instance, did it take so long to twig to the fact that there was a $9m discrepancy in the funds that had been sent by a Lakemba money transfer business to the Middle East? That was the undisclosed amount that headed to โhigh terrorism financing risk jurisdictionsโ โ and had been going on since January.
The Sydney Morning Herald revealed on Monday that the the armed wing of the PKK, which Australia has designated as a terrorism organisation, is working alongside the Kurdish Peshmerga forces which simultaneously Australia is arming. If our media sleuths had a nose for this, they might try and cut through the rhetoric and work out whether the relevant security agencies have really been on the ball.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has backed the purchase of extra aircraft.
"It was Labor who believed that the Joint Strike Fighter was an appropriate addition to our air power," he told Radio National.
"There had been some problems in terms of aspects of the aircraft but it appears that they have been ironed out."
2013: the Federal Labor Government remains committed to acquiring the fifth-generation F-35A Joint Strike Fighter aircraft, with three operational squadrons planned to enter service beginning around 2020 to replace the F/A-18A/B Hornet aircraft.
In the past Australia Defence Association executive director Neil James has said there was a lack of people on the Labor frontbench with knowledge of foreign affairs and defence..
I would assert this deficit of knowledge is not limited to ALP politicians !
