As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Another story, not so old. Conservative governments making sure outfits like Legal Aid or tenants rights groups don't get in the way of developers. The Abbott government cut off the funds to a number of bodies that had long fought the good fight for the likes of the Welfare Street residents.
Just in time for Christmas, Joe Hockey and his little mate Mathias Cormann defunded a lot of inconvenient trouble makers in the community sector. The $250 million saved will, admittedly, go some way towards paying for the Abbott ministry's travel allowances, but the groups being effectively abolished are exactly the sort that might have been able to help Mr Degnall.
Many of them were "peak" bodies. They didn't hit the streets with blankets and soup. They did research and advocacy on issues like housing - the sort of thing that is always an easy target in straitened times because it looks so useless. But there's nothing more useless to its constituents than a government blundering about, dealing policy off the cuff, because it has no idea what it's doing or what the likely consequences of its action might be.
And it is arguable that if you're selling public property at bargain prices, which some private chancer is doubling on the open market just a couple of months later, you probably need all the good advice you can get.

and how do feel about napthine locking Vic into the infamous east/west link ( i think it was one week before going into caretaker mode) was that OK by you or not?
obviously Victorians didn't want it, or didn't approve of him rushing the contracts through as they overwhelming voted out his govt.
I think they are slightly different issues; The Lodge is a Heritage-listed building, and it is the responsibility of the government to keep it from deteriorating, the urgent repairs had to be done sooner or later, and with leaking roof sooner is always the better option. The east/west link was not something that has to be done, it was rushed through before the election as an act of sabotage; Naphtine knew he is going to lose, and so made sure he will cause the incoming government maximum hassle and cost, and therefore damaging Victoria. despicable
