As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I had to laugh at this description of SHY
There's a scandal sheet in Canberra called Vexnews, until recently edited by Andrew Landeryou, a political blogger from Labor. Of Vexnews, it has been said: "The overwhelming majority of what Landeryou prints is vague rumour, personal vendettas and outright fiction. Very occasionally, though, some actual facts sneak through."
Landeryou doesn't like Sarah Hanson-Young, apparently. I don't have much time for her either, so anyone else who feels the same way may enjoy this bit of scuttlebutt from Vexnews, which elsewhere describes SHY as 'a former Goth now Christian business-class-flying cougar-queen':
"I can vouch for SHY being a real go-er at the Kennedy Room [a bar in Canberra]. As she drinks more vodka Red Bulls she becomes more aggressive – like a female praying mantis who seeks to bite the head off her mate after copulation.
SHY doesn’t leave anything to chance in her quest to add another notch to her wiccan stick. She thrusts her heaving bosom into men's elbows and hands, rubs her ‘big mama’ butt into their groins and behaves more like someone at a fat hookers' convention than an Australian senator."
Lovely !

As tensions between the Australian and Indian cricket teams reach boiling point, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has revealed sledging was his only strength as a cricketer
when we heard him say that on last night's well, we weren't surprised

Four days out from Christmas, Blind Citizens Australia (BCA), Deaf Australia, Homelessness Australia and Down Syndrome Australia learned they were to be subject to federal government funding cuts.
New Social Services Minister Scott Morrison assured concerned parties that frontline services to the disabled would not be cut, just grants to these and other organisations advocating for the homeless and the disabled.
While one BCA – Blind Citizens Australia – did not fare so well this yuletide, another BCA – the Business Council of Australia – did quite nicely.
Only a week earlier, the government had back-flipped on a proposed tax avoidance reform (Section 25-90) entailing some $600 million in tax deductions that multinational companies could claim on interest on their debts in offshore subsidiaries

A key plank of the Abbott government's employment strategy is on the cusp of failure, with just over 500 job seekers so far joining a scheme meant to benefit 32,000.
The $10,000 Restart incentive was unveiled in Treasurer Joe Hockey's May 2014 budget, the latest bid to tackle a policy area that has long vexed both sides of politics: how to encourage employers to hire mature-age Australians.
Moments after the budget was handed down, Employment Minister Eric Abetz said Restart "more than delivers on the government's 2013 election policy commitment to lift workforce participation and improve quality of life"
It was projected to help up to 32,000 people annually.
However, Senate documents show employers have hired only 510 job seekers through the scheme in the five months since its July introduction.
There are nearly 175,000 Australians over 50 looking for work through Job Services Australia.

You think the Libs have the right to turn our democracy into a dictatorship when it suits their agenda?
No, they don't. The councils are elected by the residents and the govt of the day has to work with that.
And no, if it's not compulsory under the legislation to read a letter from Morrison it is NOT compulsory and he has no right to stand over and make threats to council representatives and officials.
two words sprang to mind when I read that article about Moreland Council Glee, tyrant and dictator

Sledging is a part of cricket, if it's OK for the Australian Cricket team, why not anyone else ?
It's a damn good tactic to put someone off their game.

Pity closer scrutiny isn't applied to some of the Labor councils of this world and their policies, maybe a few children might
not have been raped and abused and reports actually followed up instead of the "we don't want to offend anyone policy".

I've never thought it right that politics be involved in councils, however that's the way it is and it is a democracy after all, the rate payers voted for their councils
