As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Am, yes like the bloke who has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, less than 2 years to live and has been told that he has to look for a job - not sick enough for disability pension. It's about punishing the unemployed and creating divisions, all while jobs dissolve faster than an aspirin.

well. obviously that speech was also made in front of cameras and with a microphone..... so the media wouldn't miss it
Debra
I think the point Julia was trying to make was that Boris specifically said in YELLOW on the photo
"NO MICROPHONE, NO SCRIPT, APPRATENTLY NO AUDIENCE"
Which she refuted by showing that wasn't the case.
the media is the audience and therefore the world. there didnt appear to be a script but he knew what he wanted to say, perhaps he memorized a script and bungled it a bit (as he tends to do)

I'm not that much of a fan of how he speaks. He's getting better than he was.
He never has kept to a script, that is one of his problems.

Aps - Why don't you ask the Illawarra council what they are doing ?
Have you ever asked them what they are doing ?
I am stating facts, which refute your argument. This isn't a personal discussion on me, me, me. I am using my region as an example of an area with high unemployment ( especially youth unemployment) and using that as an example of why the Govt's proposed changes to dole requrements are unfair on the large majority of jobseekers who genuinely want to work.
What is the Abbott Govt doing ? Create jobs as promised.. No. They are penslising those ( the majority) of genuine jobseekers on benefits instead.
No, abbott won't create any jobs, he's too busy helping his mates send jobs off shore to notice.
Am, have you earned a lovely nickname from apos yet? You could line up for welfare 3, their imagination seems limited to such uninspired boring labels.
The poster seems to be overlooking the fact that it was Labor who instigated the Geelong reforms. Labor based the NDIS head office there and encouraged the community to progress towards a more digital economy than the heavy industry of the past. The NBN would have been a huge enabler of such a move but, from what I've heard, Geelong has been dumped form the fibre rollout and is not yet on the node trial list. To create a digital industry they really need the best digital infrastructure and the old copper net won't be much help there.

Busting myths about baby boomer burdens
It's high time we reframed our perceptions and prejudices about our older citizens and recognised how very much they have given – and continue to give – to our society. Here are just three myth busters worth considering when you next hear a federal government minister tell you the "age of entitlement" is over and older Australians need to pay up.
Spending per capita on the aged
Australia is one of the meanest nations when it comes to older people. The HelpAge International Global AgeWatch Index ranks OECD statistics on spending on pensions as a percentage of GDP. Our report card in the 2014 index was mixed, except on income security where we performed particularly poorly.

so what is boris talking about?
He made a speech in front of the media to thank the troops that are helping to eliminate the ISIL threat...No microphone, no script and apparently no audience!
Tony Abbott - 4-1-2015 Iraq: I want to thank you very much...you are prepared to put yourselves in harm's way...you are prepared to serve...a long way home...ah, you are prepared to put your country first...in a way, on-one else is...ah, that's why I salute you...and that's why it's important as your prime minister, ah, I'm here in person...to give you that message...(smiles into camera waves to media)
why suggest there was no audience
when the pm was addressing ADF
Personnel at the Baghdad Diplomatic Compound?

Glee
Yes, I have a nickname for am3, it involves the word "kiwi" !
Re Geelong, I acknowledge that the reinvention of Geelong has been going on a while.
Well before Napthine (Liberal), well before Bracks (Labor) and also well before Rudd.
It's been a continual process and needs to be to continue. I place most of the credit on
the local council for being progressive.
NDIS was good. Agree NBN would be great. I just checked "The NBN is currently only available
at new real estate developments in Geelong." I know you can get NBN speeds in Geelong
because iinet provide a Coax cable.
