As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

just spilled my coffee laughing so much at the lame attempts of defending the abbott, what's that thing where you are shown an ink spot and you have to say what it looks like?
R o r s c h a c h T e s t
I was once told to participate in this test, I refused, told them it was silly, and was told "we can't help you then".
So I participated, and said, when every page was presented, "It looks like someone has dropped some ink and the page has been folded over."
I daresay that I was put into some psychobabble box for being belligerent.
They still couldn't help anyway.

could care less about the chatter around the flags, point is the abbott wouldn't let the media go with him into Iraq so the speculation is pointless as is the trip.

Yes, apparently those media people who live in Baghdad were also excluded.
It seems at the lately pages and pages are wasted on trivial nonsense arguments based on nit-picking regular posters and diverting the thread by changing to the topic to previous govts.
I wonder if it pays well.

abbott is one scary sucker, imo.
With his big bold statement that ISIL have declared war on the whole world and he's going to stop them is such a dangerous and stupid strategy.
Perhaps he will wonder how hard the door is to open and be tempted to find out if he has the strength.

Why the war on doctors?
http://www.medaxs.com.au/mdxgridfeed/post/1/18371
Most people seem unaware that on January 19, the Medicare rebate for a GP consultation lasting 6-10 minutes will fall from $37.05 to $16.95, and then down to $11.95 from July 1.
I am a GP. Sometimes I can resolve a patient's problem in less than 10 minutes. This is usually because of the fact that I know a particular patient or family very well, because our practice provides continuity of care, and because we have years of education, experience, and hard work behind us. Occasional shorter consultations provide a much-needed opportunity to reduce the waiting room back-log while still offering high-quality care.
Forty per cent of my billings go directly to my practice to cover staff wages and their entitlements, rent, accreditation, supplies, etc. None of these costs will drop despite the rebate falling 54 to 67 per cent over the next six months. This is an intolerable insult to the practice of family medicine.

It's a bit strange that they think they'll get the medics onside in their war on medicare by declaring war on them first. Although it is typical bully behaviour. But they are not in the school yard anymore and they should have grown out of the childish bullying behaviour years ago.

They are doing it the only way possible as they couldn't bully the co payment through the senate, I reckon the abbott knew before he lied his way in that he wouldn't last long so they are trying to wreck everything as fast as possible.

The Insidious Invasion of the IPA into Australian Politics
The IPA put forward 75 proposals for a future Abbott government to consider. They were accompanied by an article titled Be like Gough: 75 radical ideas to transform Australia and attributed to John Roskam, Chris Berg and James Paterson.
Here is a short extract:
“If he wins government, Abbott faces a clear choice. He could simply overturn one or two symbolic Gillard-era policies like the carbon tax, and govern moderately. He would not offend any interest groups. In doing so, he’d probably secure a couple of terms in office for himself and the Liberal Party. But would this be a successful government? We don’t believe so. The remorseless drift to bigger government and less freedom would not halt, and it would resume with vigor when the Coalition eventually loses office. We hope he grasps the opportunity to fundamentally reshape the political culture and stem the assault on individual liberty.”
