Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I had no idea there were so many members in QLD with an arm missing.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I went to the office of one of those members yesterday, wearing my It's Time T shirt.  The person there was unfazed, and almost did a somersalt in order to assist me with my request.  She was very excited because the election had just been called.  But her boss will not get my vote.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

JO: "........ the push to buy Telstra T2 shares to mum and dad investors didn't work out too well did it. Most sold at least half the price they bought them for when they became cumbersome and almost worthless."

I still wonder why "mum & dad investors" bothered buying, perhaps they were expecting a bonanza like that from the first tranche, especially with comments like this at the time:

"ALAN KOHLER: No-one expects Telstra 2 to be the same sort of bonanza that the first float of Telstra was. In fact, maybe the question is whether Telstra shares are worth buying at all now."

Shares are a long term investment for most,  not a bandwagon,  and a little due diligence should be applied before hopping-on it.  I have purchased a considerable number of TLS shares (for income) since T1 (avoiding T2) and my total average price is showing as $4.01. The fact that currently TLS is $6.00 is not important as currently, with FF dividends my return on expenditure is 10.51%.
If I did sell my TLS shares what would I do with the money?

JO: "Now another LNP government is trying to offload Medibank with the Medibank Private float. Good luck with that."

Good luck indeed!

I bought those also ($2.00), but will probably sell them as dividends are somewhat distant..

If these results are to be blamed upon the current malodorous government ,  who cares?  (apart from the cartooning matriarchs) . Let me paraphrase:

That which we call a dividend. By any other name would smell as sweet.

Most people care to have a society that offers a decent standard of living, educates the young, provides support services for the disabled, cares for the aged and infirm. It would be a rather miserable society if we all followed the lead of the greedy who only care about their own needs.

G58: "Most people care to have a society that offers a decent standard of living, educates the young, provides support services for the disabled, cares for the aged and infirm. You encapsulate in nicely G58  ".........Most people care to have a society that offers ........". offers? translation:  gimme gimme.

You might possibly remember  the expression "hip-pocket nerve" it is part of our lexicon,  and refers to a good proportion of the electorate who are "seduced" by politicians come election time with many and varied  Offers. That  actually makes the "majority" "greedy"!

I quote from an Aug 2013 SMH:

Greed of an ignorant electorate fed by power-hungry politicians

"......our politician-fuelled combination of lotus land ignorance and greed bodes ill. We have never had it so good, but we want even more despite our expectations being unmatched by a willingness or capacity to pay for them......"

Sound familiar?

G58, you (and many more) may well expect society to offer you a  decent standard of living, myself I would expect (and have ) worked for mine.

I do expect a decent standard of living and I shouldn't have to wait until I'm 70 and I hope that I won't be means tested on how many years I put in to paid employment before I had my family and how much our family has paid in taxes and levys.
