Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I went to the office of one of those members yesterday, wearing my It's Time T shirt.  The person there was unfazed, and almost did a somersalt in order to assist me with my request.  She was very excited because the election had just been called.  But her boss will not get my vote.

Thousands of Centrelink and Medicare staff have signed a petition protesting against a proposal to outsource call centre work to Telstra.

About 6,500 Department of Human Services (DHS) staff signed the petition, calling on the federal department to not proceed with the Telstra outsourcing proposal.

.......................................................................................................................................

.....LOL...... if this wasn't so serious.

helstra call centres are already based/outsourced in the Philippines - nothing untoward against Filipinos but come on!!

Concerns about confidentiality and privacy issues.

These Telstra operators are only experienced in incompetency atm, from my experience so what Australian Fed DODO decided to handball calls for Centrelink onto Telstra/the Philippines?.......who?

Abbott

Tony Abbott has told breakfast radio listeners that he considers himself a bit of a "grog-monster". Picture: Colin Murty

Mr Abbott made the unusual remark on Fitzy and Wippa’s Nova breakfast program today when the radio hosts told him they were disappointed he couldn’t join their Aussie battler boat party on Sydney Harbour tonight.

"I'd probably be too much of a grog-monster for you fellas," he joked when the radio larrikins expressed their regret at his absence.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"Repeat after me: the Australian economy is not like a household budget"

The Guardian, what else!. I checked (sorry) and Smith is also  featured BIG in the  "Independent Australia", your favourite!.

The Australian's Contributing Economics Editor Judith Sloan mentions Smith:

"Some of my most enjoyable chuckles come from reading economically illiterate commentators trying to exploit the simplistic statements of random economists to make political points.

A recent case in point was an extremely rambling and incoherent piece in The Guardian written by one Warwick Smith, self-declared ecological economist. His thesis is that every policy stance of the Abbott government is at odds with the unanimous and undisputed views of economists."

"If you believe Smith, there is not a single economist in Australia who believes there is a budget emergency, a debt crisis or that the carbon tax wrecked the economy. Take it from me, pal, every sensible economist believes that the budget situation has to be repaired, starting now, and that government debt cannot be allowed to continue to accumulate as it is has over the past six years.

""Some of my most enjoyable chuckles come from reading economically illiterate commentators trying to exploit the simplistic statements of random economists to make political points I would suggest Smith  knows  his audience well and makes his statements accordingly.

"Of course, it is always possible to hunt around to get an economist for hire to say just about anything."

Lindsey Tanner a  past competent ALP  Minister for Finance and Deregulation once stated:

"Most people aren't well-educated enough to unpick economic arguments, and that includes the increasing number of Australians who are well-educated, but not in economics."

Thought this might be appreciated, our 10 year bond rate:

Australia Government Bond 10Y

10 year bond rate is at a record low of 2.68%  January 2015.

Perhaps there are thoughts here apropos the domestic economy position expected in 2015 in association with the oil price, exchange rate, iron ore price, reduction in commodities taxes, Chinese growth,  relaxation of US QE etc, etc.
