As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

"The campaign assures students that they will not have to pay any fees upfront and will start repaying their debts only when they earn a salary of $50,000. The government will pay around 50 per cent of the cost of a degree under a deregulated system, according to the advertisements."
There is nothing new in the above and hasn't been for years.
What they should be emphasising is:
Deregulation of Uni fees = substantial increase to cost of a degree per student
Each student loan will take years longer to pay off
The proposed changes from index rate to market interest rate on student loans will mean students loan debt (much higher under the Govt's plan) will be increasing by a larger amount than currently.

I read yesterday that 30% of young voters had not registered in Qld. Is it too late or do they still have time to do it?
Antony Green said they can register up to the day before but will have to lodge a declaration vote as they won't be on the printed roll.
http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/2015/01/when-do-the-rolls-close-for-the-queensland.html
But Section 106 (1) (d) of the electoral act permits enrolment after the close of rolls. It states that voters who
(i) are not enrolled on the electoral roll for any district but are entitled to be enrolled on the electoral roll for the district; and
(ii) after the cut-off day for electoral rolls and no later than 6p.m. on the day before the polling day, have given a notice to the commission or an electoral registrar for the district under section 65.
are permitted to vote. As voters to which this provision applies will not have their names on the roll, they will be required to cast a declaration vote when they vote. Postal voting will be difficult for late enrolments.
So any voter who is not on the roll by Saturday can still lodge an enrolment form before 30 January and will be permitted to vote. New voters still have three weeks to get on the roll.
Voters who have changed their address cannot use this provision to change their enrolment. However, as their name is already on the roll for an electorate, they can vote in the electorate where they are currently enrolled. (UPDATE - I wasn't correct on this. Voters are also permitted to change their address.)

yes, the advertising is deceptive Am, even with all the money they've spent on them... but then again, maybe that is the idea lol

thanks Glee, some were saying the cut off date was yesterday, but it's good people can still vote, they've just have more forms to fill out on the day by the looks of it. I follow Antony Green on twitter too, don't know how I missed that

1. If they can get a job over $50 000 a year they have no choice.
2. If bright young minds don't leave in droves to work overseas to get away from Abbott Govt and their unfair proposals re Uni fee increases etc.

Really any proposed increase in for any type of fees, can't be dressed up to make it more attractive to the thousands of people who will be forced to pay it ( in this case anyone who wants to enrol at Uni. Advt waste of money, no way can they 'sell' that idea.

Most will still go to Uni here, then go overseas to get a job.
on โ11-01-2015 11:56 AM
why is that? because their are so few jobs here?
