Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Secretly? without the scrutiny of the Senate?

the changes to Medicare was one of the sneaky things they pushed through before Christmas. They made changes so they could bypass the senate.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Duh, that's the point...they leave Aust after graduating, to work oseas long term and no way so far, can the Govt can make them pay their student loan back.

Both my points above were in reply to you posting... IF they pay their loans back... Two examples for you when there is no compulsory repayments taken.

Most of the outstanding student loan debt is owed from graduates living & working overseas.

Really any proposed increase in for any type of fees, can't be dressed up to make it more attractive to the thousands of people who will be forced to pay it ( in this case anyone who wants to enrol at Uni. Advt waste of money, no way can they 'sell' that idea.

perhaps they are hoping that people are stupid and will believe their advertising campaign

I think they do, which just proves who the stupid ones are! ( not the public or current/prospective students either!).

They've framed it in an us against them format so people think that uni graduates are and will earn huge dollars and are therefore ripping off the rest of the population by objecting to fee increases.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I hope those out there in CS land, who constantly claim you can strip a person (who was eligible and has gained Australian citizenship) of their Austraian citizenship and deport them will acknowledge that claim is inaccurate.

Abbott interview 2GB

"Mr Abbott admits those who leave Australia to train for terrorism, 'come back brutalised and militarised and much more able to do us harm' but he insists the new laws will prevail.

And he says that those who are caught will be punished severely if there is proof they have gone overseas to fight.

'We can't take away the citizenship of people who have got it,' he adds, 'unless we discover that they have got it under false pretences but we can deal with them with the full severity of the law."

which is why you can't rely on the public to do the right thing and need to impose regulations.

LOL.. People shouldn't be allowed to vote in Govt elections either then. Senators shouldn't be allowed to vote for or against on Budget proposals either.

I thought we live in Australia not Laos.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

P007: "For those interested ref USA job numbers: got following from a website by Harry Dent."......................."In total, 51% of the jobs added in December fell below the median wage level.

Oh gosh 51% below and thus 49% above- the MEDIAN. That is catastrophic, for the US,   but but what about Aus P007?.

"For those interested ref USA job numbers":  Hands up  here : .............................., OK that many!

Lets have a quick bio squizzy at your "hero" Dent:

"In June 1999 AIM Dent Demographics Fund had significant first year gains however it poorly preformed thereafter until it was ultimately merged, to closure" Oh dear.

In 2000, Dent predicted that the DOW would reach 40,000, a prediction which was repeated in his 2004 book. In his book, he also predicted the NASDAQ would reach 13,000 - 20,000. In late 2006 he revised his forecasts to much lower levels, estimating the Dow would reach 16,000 - 18,000 and the NASDAQ 3,000 - 4,000. In January 2006, he predicted that the DOW would reach 14,000 - 15,000 by the end of the year. It ended 2006 at 12,463, 11% below the lower end of his prediction. It ended 2007 at 13,264, again significantly lower than Dent's revised prediction of 15,000 by early 2000 Oh dear!

In 2012 the "Dent Tactical Advantage ETF," symbol DENT, was de-listed having consistently under-performed the market for three years while at the same time charging an egregiously high 1.65% management fee. Oh dear!

In 2014, while promoting his book The Demographic Cliff in Australia, he predicted a major Australian housing market correction beginning in 2014

ABC Jan 2015
Capital city house prices rise 7.9pc in 2014, but expects expect growth to slow in 2015. " " trends were likely to continue, although slower price growth for Sydney would probably drag the national average rise down to between 5 and 6 per cent this year.' Oh dear.

"The lowest wage category alone accounted for over 30% of the new additions listed in the latest jobs report. Unfortunately, low-wage jobs like these do not provide enough income to boost consumer spending or encourage more borrowing, so their overall impact on the economy is negligible."

Historical Data Chart

Oh dear!

Barrons Magazine, "Harry S. Dent Jr. knows how to sell books. But whether his stock-market strategies make sense—or money for investors—is another question.

So much for a USA "expert" I would suggest AUS investors give him  a miss.  I wonder if he believes in secret evil chemtrails (in broad daylight) .

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I care not for investing on the stock market .

I care even less about giving my money to someone like Harry Dent.

I care not for stock market prophecies........but I thought the info given was horrendous!!... about how USA employment numbers, though reportedly increased recently, show on inspection that there is a huge percentage that are earning what we in Australia term the 'below poverty line'............

I then asked if Australia was going this way also.

here, for those that don't want to scroll back, I will repeat:

For those interested ref USA job numbers: got following from a website by Harry Dent.

Just hope Australia does not follow suit.

................................................................................................................................................................................

Although the U.S. economy has now added more than 200,000 new jobs per month for 11 months in a row, and the unemployment rate ticked down to 5.6% from 5.8%, December marks the fourth straight month during which a majority of the newly created jobs were low-quality positions, existing below the median wage level.

The lowest wage category alone accounted for over 30% of the new additions listed in the latest jobs report. Unfortunately, low-wage jobs like these do not provide enough income to boost consumer spending or encourage more borrowing, so their overall impact on the economy is negligible.

This further confirms that we are still in the grips of a low-wage recovery.

In total, 51% of the jobs added in December fell below the median wage level.

You are terrific at doing the 'twist' aren't you monnie!
