As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Abbott needs to save money, how much more could be cu from the HUGE budget of the ABC .
I mean, does Virginia Trioli, as a Battler for the left really need to be paid $235,664.?
And what about the others on $300,000 plus ?
No wonder the ABC has a billion $ budget that hasn't been touched for years.

Bit of de ja vu happening here. After all the hype in VIC (including the altered captioned images posted here) about how Labor was going to lose etc.. and look what actually happened

The Abbott Government is proving detrimental to Campbell Newmanโs election hopes
He [Newman] said he believed he had done enough in recent times to differentiate his government from Mr Abbottโs.
He would not confirm whether Mr Abbott would play a key role at his campaign launch, or even attend the function.

THE Newman Government is battling a tidal wave of hostility towards the Abbott Government as it seeks to secure a second term in office on January 31
.
A new Galaxy Poll, conducted exclusively for The Courier-Mail, has revealed almost one in three voters are poised to vote against the LNP in Queensland because of federal factors.
The poll has exposed how Queensland is repeating events in Victoria last year, when the Napthine administration became the first in 60 years to be ousted after just one term of office.
Victorian Laborโs push to link federal factors to their rivals throughout the campaign was credited as an important factor behind their victory. And their Queensland colleagues are attempting to repeat their efforts.
Premier Campbell Newman yesterday told The Courier-Mail he would likely only campaign beside the prime minister or one of his federal colleagues if they had something to announce that would benefit Queenslanders.
โIf the prime minister or a federal minister are putting on the table an initiative, a policy, funding for Queensland that benefits Queensland, of course we will,โ he said.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has so far been absent from the campaign and is now on holiday, raising questions about whether he will be available to attend Mr Newmanโs campaign launch.

hmm... I like this bit - a tidal wave of hostility towards the Abbott Govt

I hope one realises that radio and/or TV presenters don't just turn up at the station in time to present their show (1-3 hours) and go straight home afterwards.
The Australian

End of entitlement culture must start with MPs
..the place to start is not with Australiaโs 165,000 federal public servants, but with Australiaโs 226 federal MPs. It is scandalous how much money our politicians shell out to themselves in salary and entitlements each year.
The annual average increase in an MPโs base salary over the past 10 years - including a one-off lift of 31.3 per cent in 2012 - is 6.9 per cent. Most workers can only dream of such wage increases. The base salary for MPs is $195,130 a year. MPs now earn 2.8 times the average annual wage. Not bad if you can get it.
But this is only a โbaseโ salary. They are also paid an electorate allowance of between $32,000 and $46,000 each year to reimburse them for โcostsโ incurred as an MP. It is treated as taxable income. MPs are also entitled to a private-plated vehicle for โofficial businessโ or $19,500 each year in additional allowances to meet transport costs.
MPs have an electorate office and a minimum of four full-time staff to work at their discretion, along with separate printing, communications and publications allowances. Attorney-General George Brandis spent almost $13,000 on books, magazines and newspapers over four years. Even an MPโs personal home phone is paid for.
Domestic and overseas travel for โstudyโ is paid for. MPs earn a tax-free $268 for every night spent in Canberra or other rates for โofficial businessโ elsewhere. Whatever they donโt spend, they can pocket. Family members are given free travel. Some former MPs have a Life Gold Pass that grants them free travel anywhere in Australia for โnon-commercialโ business.
The salaries and entitlements paid to Australian politicians are among the most generous in the world. The pay is so good, especially for those in the top echelons, that it pays better to serve here than it does in the US, Europe or many Asian countries.
