Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I just heard that on the teev.  $20.  It will not affect me at the GP, but it will at the specialists, who are visited more often when you get older.

Unbelievable and disgustingly sneaky.

Well, maybe it will affect me, I might get that letter also.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I think  these excerpts from a Paul Kelly article could easily be aimed at this thread, and C&P cartoons,   Not that I would expect any Cyclopians to read his material let alone C&P it  here, ( no big cartoons !)

"AUSTRALIA risks heading to a new status as a stupid country — a nation unable to solve its public policy problems and, even worse, a nation incapable of even conducting a public debate about them.

Tony Abbott’s appeal for a mature debate about Federation and tax reform has produced a predictable response. The universal ALP reaction is the default reflex: the GST is regressive, it cannot be altered and Abbott’s call for debate is the perfect trigger for an anti-GST campaign against him.

On display are the self-defeating rituals that define our bankrupt political conversation. A nation that cannot reform is on the escalator of decline. That is Australia’s current predicament though, at some unknown point, the public will reject the denial of rational debate.

When Abbott called for a “mature debate” in parliament the opposition scoffed. Again, that is no surprise. In the previous parliament, Abbott’s anti-carbon tax campaign frequently crossed the borders of rationality. Labor is right on that point — it can make an argument based on hypocrisy. What next?

How long will Labor carry its bleeding wounds from the Rudd-Gillard era on its sleeve like a bullied child? Grief and revenge are Labor’s abiding sentiments. But grief and revenge cannot serve as a tenable political operation. They are leading Labor, deluded by some short-term polling, into a political dead-end.

On issue after issue Labor has nothing to contribute but hysterical rhetoric and poll-driven tactics. It says that Abbott was a wrecker in the last parliament and then seeks to outbid him as a wrecker. The ALP thinks it is being smart — but it is storing up a bundle of problems for itself."

Did you note these:

"How long will Labor carry its bleeding wounds from the Rudd-Gillard era on its sleeve like a bullied child? Grief and revenge are Labor’s abiding sentiments."

"On display are the self-defeating rituals that define our bankrupt political conversation"

'On issue after issue Labor has nothing to contribute but hysterical rhetoric and poll-driven tactics", and large cartoons

This the Sandpit though.
