As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Proof that illegal Asylum seekers are Country shoppers
"The asylum seeker said the group wanted to be handed over to the UNHCR if there was no prospect of resettlement in Australia."
Can't get Australia, don't want PNG, prefer to country shop via the UN.
What an opportunity that presents to get rid off them fro Manus, just like SHY, Ian Rintoul and everyone else wants.
You can't complain about that now, can you ????
WIN WIN all round.
"and there are reports of acts of self-harm, including one man swallowing a razor blade."
That would have been a close shave

PFfffft! Daft, mean but funny as a 'joke'.
I feel very embarrassed about how we as a nation treat our refugees, very embarrassed.....but to be truthful I am more embarrassed about how this Govt is treating Australians at the moment.
.....absolutely no sincerity, no honesty and no respect.
Boy are these politicians in for a huge shock once our youth cotton-on and get together as they do in their cyber space chat rooms.........discuss strategy/tactics.
This Govt and cohorts has no chance against our youth/next generation of capable leaders.

I think:
"
Ms Palaszczuk spent the morning at Green Island, where she revealed Labor would spend $100 million over five years on protecting the Great Barrier Reef.
The policy involves spending an additional $20 million each year on โwater quality and environmental sustainability programsโ.
Meanwhile, Labor has committed to cutting nitrogen run-off by 80 per cent in key catchments by 2025 and reducing the total suspended sediment run-off by 50 per cent by 2025.
....... the announcement includes the creation of a โhigh-level taskforceโ - made up of representatives from local government, conservation groups, tourism operators, scientists and others - to determine how to meet the targets."
this is positive, much needed and REAL.

Easy entry for skilled foreigners
Companies would be allowed to bring employees to Australia for up to a year without applying for 457 skilled worker visas under a migration-rule revamp being considered by the government.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is proposing a new temporary entry visa for foreign workers that would not require the candidates to pass language or skills requirements. Nor would employers have to prove they cannot find an Australian to fill the position.
The proposed โshort-term mobilityโ subclass of visas would be available for โspecialised work which may include intra-company transfers and foreign correspondentsโ, says a proposal paper obtained byThe Australian Financial Review.
Fly-in, fly-out commuters, global partners or specialists who need to ยญprovide short periods of work or consultation to a company would be ยญcovered. The visa would allow for multiple entries.
The paper is part of a review announced in October and billed by the Abbott government as the biggest re-examination of skilled migration in 25 years. The government wants to cut red tape and give companies more flexibility to grow and compete for talent.

The Abbott Gov't is obviously giving the ACCC a bit more bite so it can tackle petrol prices.
Petrol prices and city versus country prices.
I can't see anywhere in that article that the abbott govt have given the ACC more power, but I agree its unfair that petrol prices aren't more uniform, and that country areas are still paying high prices. Monitoring them is a good start.
Currently, the ACCC can only pursue court-ordered fines and penalties where it can be proved companies have colluded in setting the bowser price.

You want money spent on jobs, and what does LABOR IN QLD propose ?

A $100 million that could be better spent on jobs.
$20 million on water quality ?
A โhigh-level taskforceโ - sounds very much like "Jobs for the boys" but never actually achieving much.
do you mean ths, Labors environmental policy?
Labor has said it would scrap hundreds of millions of dollarsโ worth of taxpayer funding for the controversial Carmichael coalmine in central Queensland if it took power in the state election
well, don't forget the Libs promises
It's called the Ashgrove Plan and it's $18 million designed to keep the seat yellow and blue.
Premier Campbell Newman ventured into the outskirts of his electorate for his first campaign appearance, with a $5 million commitment to help the Mitchelton Youth Club expand.
Ultimitately it will be Qld voters who decide what is best for their state, not you..not me
