Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott will today confirm he has dropped his "signature" paid parental leave scheme in favour of a "families package", as he tries to convince his colleagues he deserves to keep his job.

In the wake of Saturday's disastrous Queensland election result, Coalition MPs across the country fear they face an electoral wipe-out and some ministers have told the ABC they think the Prime Minister should consider resigning.

some excellent commentary from readers under this article

What's the bet that the "families package" will favour the wealthy (as his PPL policy did), and ignore the real battling families.

Hey Vic, have a look at the article on fracking that I posted in the mining thread, the one from Oklahoma, speaking of development made me think of that. It's not what we want.

Debra

No, can't find it - at the moment.

I read about that years ago plus many more.

I understand the pros and cons of fracking.

One rule for the Greens, one rule for everyone else.

They are quite happy to clear land for a road into a hillside to put up a wind turbine.

Wind turbines are build on farmland, not "pristine wilderness".  Even if they were, one road only used to service the turbine has only very limited impact.  And sometimes there is a need of compromise.

And the parrot story turned up to be total fabrication by the anti turbine nutters.

Super

BS to just on farmland.

And even more BS re the parraots, I was there, I had them in my hot little hands and we counted the rest,

then they all pi ssed off. It was the first really accurate and serious count and habitat study done on them.

It was in the 1980's.

"And the parrot story turned up to be total fabrication by the anti turbine nutters."

Or are you talking about parrots being killed by Turbines ? Didn't see that story.

Heaps of birds get killed by them.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I don't know polks, but he is in a position where he has to pretend he cares about ordinary Australian families to save himself.Too little too late.imo He was voted in as a moderate but has governed with hard right wing ideology. Australians don't want that. He made so many promises about the things his govt.wouldn't do, but he lied, they did all of them

The thing that bothers me the most is that they still don't seem to get it

It's nothing to do with "selling" their policies to the electorate, we just don't like their policies.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

It is the ‘loon pond’ that the electorate is rejecting: the entire operational machine of the Australian Right.

That includes policy favouring the wealthiest 1% in reform, handing power to business lobbies and think tanks, troglodyte climate policy, values derived from ideology not reason, political assassination of opponents rather than engagement with them, the arrogance of putting the Party ahead of the nation in all kinds of lies and backflips and, the final cog in the machine, Fox News style wall-to-wall favourble Murdoch press coverage, which blind Freddy can see is bamboozlement.......

and do read the comments that follow Smiley LOL

Abbott’s not the entire problem.

It’s LNP; they fracking stink.

MOST of this blame should go to Joe Hockey. What a disaster this man has proven to be.......

Stop twisting the words and disagreeing for the sake of it.

I didn't say excessive, I said heaps.

Which is true. Same as wires.

"bird migratory patterns affected by sheep or the lack thereof."

I didn't say "migratory birds", I was talking specifically about the Orange Bellied parrot

and I didn't say it affects the migratory patterns, I said it affected the habitat which

meant the pis sed off somewhere else to feed. They still fly over from Tasmania.

They'll be extinct soon.
