Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

http://www.smh.com.au/business/tax-office-takes-less-aggressive-approach-to-big-business-20150203-13...

The Tax Office is taking a less-aggressive approach to the nation's largest companies than it used to, with its submission to the inquiry into corporate tax avoidance confirming there is only one company in the nation that is deemed "higher risk"

how pathetic is this??

yesterday the murdoch papers were full of stories about what a good litle tax payer he is...

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

The problem with LNP is that they cannot tell people what they are really about because nobody in their right mind would vote for them.  So Abbott goes to election pleading no cuts to pension, no cuts to ABC & SBS, no cuts to health and education, and then a soon as he gets in he does just that.  Unlike JG who meant what she said about carbon tax at the time she said it, TA knew exactly what he wants to do; it is in the LNP DNA to want Australia be like the USA.

The private insurance rebate that Howard gave to the funds, could have gone directly to our public health system and the crises would have been largely alleviated.  Just as with everything else the LNP does; they make it so complicated and expensive to administer; there would be nothing much left from the $7 doctor co-payment, once all the cots associated with collecting processing etc. would be taken in considerations.  OK if our public health system needs more, increase the medicare levy.  Would people on reasonable income really notice few dollars a week go to medicare?  Would they care knowing that if they need medical care it is excellent and available to them at no cost?  I do not want to have a choice as they do in the USA, where you can chose from many very expensive covers, which may not cover everything and can dump you if you fall on hard times and cannot pay.  Our Medicare system is considerably cheaper and better, and this government wants to to destroy it.

Yes, the attack was well orchestrated last night.  It will probably snowball until next week, then will have to be dealt with.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Going to hospital with a heart attack costs about $50 000 in the US. Eight prescriptions for heart, cholesterol reducing pills etc about $500 a month.

We do have a medicare levy on most taxpayers to fund Medicare. I don't think a co/payment fee on GP fees was a smart move either.
There is an admin fee included in that. Bulk bill clinics that charge noone at present, would have to start collecting money and accounting for it.. Extra work for them for $2 a patient spprox.

As super suggested, increase the medicare levy if it isn't enough. Low income earners wouldn't be affected if their income is below the threshold where the medicare levy kicks in.

Reducing the Medicare benefit paid for a GP visit, will reduce the Drs income, so they will pass that cost on to the patients.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

From what I have heard, the only concession Abbott has made has been to shut Credlin out of the cabinet room.  Why did they accept her presence in the past?
