As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

An embattled Abbott government has risked damage to long-running political bipartisanship on national security by accusing the former Labor government of having allowed terrorists to enter the country.
In a fiery question time at the end of what was unquestionably its worst week since being elected, the government used a pre-arranged "Dorothy Dix" question from its own side to draw attention to the fact that two alleged terrorists arrested this week in Sydney had entered Australia during the term of the most recent Labor government.

'Mr Abbott starts talking about the "Holocaust of jobs" lost under the previous Labor government but quickly withdraws and replaces it with the "decimation of jobs".
I think it was certainly inopportune, however the ruckus it "elicited" in parliament was indicative of a lack of knowledge and/or political opportunism, Same here perhaps?
"Nuclear holocaust
In East Africa five years of drought have brought about a holocaust in which millions have died.
Numerous small investors lost their stakes in the holocaust that followed the precipitous drop in stocks
The press gives little coverage to the holocaust of malaria that goes on, year after year, in tropical countries....."

"what a shame we've just cut science"
Sorry this is "naughty" history from the Circus era
"The research, commissioned by Australia's chief scientist, Ian Chubb, shows the number of university science enrolments at all course year levels has stagnated in the past decade, the report was prepared by University of Helsinki and Monash University researcher Ian Dobson......"
Dr Dobson said the Rudd government's discount HECS scheme for maths and science students had been starting to generate more undergraduate domestic enrolments in the subjects, and the decision in November by Ms Gillard to abolish it for new students from 2013 - saving $403.6 million over three years - was a mistake.

No excuse for it mm, even Abbott realised he shouldn't have said it.

Ha, Pyne would have slashed that scheme and burnt it, and doubled the fees for all students including science and maths students.

Naughty naughty, someone in Labor was playing funny b uggers with the ballot papers in Shortens leadership ballot
Labor's Sam Dastyari is being called upon to make a personal explanation to the Senate about his knowledge of or involvement in irregularities in the 2013 ballot that installed Bill Shorten as federal Opposition Leader.
An ALP tribunal found at least 20 of those addresses were changed to the post office box or residential address of Auburn councillor Hicham Zraika.
I wonder if Shorten is legit or whether he got the position by cheating
Probably weasel out of it like the Rape charge.

And as I said before, they need to look at the Whitehouse.
Some of the cooments are good as again, this shows that Obama does dither, he did on Osama raid, he did on this one.
"Obama, when confronted with a decision, is the proverbial "deer in the headlights". He is not qualified for the job as a leader of a country.

as far as Bill Shorten goes, personally I don't care who leads the labor party as long as they win the next election and stop this current control freak that we have in charge atm
an article written about Obama from someone in the UK??... OK. The US govt has very little to do with the Abbott govt. and hardly comparable

Prime Minister Tony Abbott is facing a rebellion in the Senate, with up to half a dozen of his own senators indicating they could cross the floor in favour of changing race hate laws.
In a sign of Mr Abbott's diminishing authority, West Australian senator Chris Back and Queensland Liberal National Party senator Ian Macdonald have told Fairfax Media they will vote in favour of a bill designed to water down the Racial Discrimination Act. South Australian senator Sean Edwards has given a strong indication he could join them, arguing the act in its current form suppresses free speech.
Mr Abbott pledged to repeal section 18C of the act prior to the 2013 election after it was used to prosecute conservative commentator Andrew Bolt. But he abandoned the pledge last year after a fierce backlash from religious leaders and many Liberal MPs.
