As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I'm sure the comrades can find it and c&p it on here to assuage themselves.
Senator Ludlum has spoken several times in the Senate. I've not heard a shameful one so could you be more specific, please?
Comrade Wine says Ludlum's speech was excellent (I reckon I know which one idlewhile is referring to), I have re-read it and am feeling very assuaged, thanks.

And dont forget the real state of the nation within the Libs tenure: The climb and climb of the AllOrds.
Do the incessant bleats of the electorate really mean much, apart from catharsis, when what is important is the fleece and milk.

actually the INCESSANT BLEATS do mean quite a lot as they convert to votes at election time. it's called democracy

My point exactly (perhaps that is why the Abbott flock is "in"), lots of votes from the unthinking 80% (catharsis) and 20 % considered (?). Meanwhile regardless of the bleating , what is actually important is the price of wool and milk , the annual sales of both, and whether the hand feeding of the bleaters will continue so they do not have to climb any hills to reach greener pastures.
I sold my bale of wool 2 weeks ago.

...John Lyons today and was surprised he is a journalist of left leanings. I looked up a lot of his past reporting and was dismayed to see his bias to the left on world happenings.

Tony Abbott denies making formal proposal to invade Iraq
22 February 2015
The editor of The Australian Clive Mathieson said: “In response to the Prime Minister’s comments, there is no suggestion in The Weekend Australian’s articles this morning that Mr Abbott “formally” sought advice on a deployment of 3500 troops to Iraq.
“And in response to Air Chief Marshal Binskin, the articles never suggested he was at the meetings in question. In fact, The Australian can confirm he was not in attendance.”
The Prime Minister also denied today that he had put an invasion proposal before cabinet.
However, Lyons said his story never identified the November 25 meeting as a national security committee of cabinet meeting and confirmed there were several witnesses to Mr Abbott’s proposal to send 3500 ground forces to Iraq.
“We never said that it was a national security committee of cabinet meeting,” said Lyons. “As we said in the story, it was said in front of his own staff and others including Ms Credlin.”
Mr Abbott also said there had been no attempt by Lyons to raise the issue of a unilateral deployment of 3500 ground troops with his office.
“I note that apparently there was no attempt made to contact him (the Chief of the Defence Force), and certainly there was no attempt made to raise with my office this issue of 3500 soldiers being unilaterally committed to Iraq,” he said today.
However, Mr Mathieson said the Prime Minister’s office was twice alerted to the paper’s questions.
“The Prime Minister’s office was alerted to our questions about the Prime Minister’s discussions about sending troops to Iraq verbally on Thursday evening and in writing on Friday morning,” said Mr Mathieson. “We stand by the story 100 per cent. The troops that Mr Abbott were talking about sending were not merely advisers like the 1500 that President Obama announced. These were combat troops.”
The report in The Weekend Australian forced the government into damage control with the Prime Minister’s senior supporters digging in behind him, defending his record on national security as well as the role of Ms Credlin.
...But Lyons also said the Prime Minister’s office was twice informed of The Australian’s questions regarding Mr Abbott’s proposal of sending ground troops to Iraq.
“On two occasions — once verbally and once by email — we put the question to the Prime Minister’s office and we ran in full their response,” he said. “There’s absolutely no doubt that Tony Abbott made this proposal.”

I doubt that Kelly would be the pick of choice for the Myops here, judging by this Canberra Times comment:
Triumph and Demise is the inside account of the hopes, achievements and failures of the Labor Government from 2007 to 2013. Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard came together, defeated John Howard, formed a brilliant partnership and raised the hopes of a nation, yet fell into disagreements, tensions and then hostilities under the pressures of politics and policy. Veteran journalist Paul Kelly probes the dynamics of the Rudd-Gillard alliance and dissects what tore them apart.
Kelly also examines Tony Abbott: ruthless, underrated, measured, pragmatic. Kelly writes with a keen eye, sharp pen and fearless determination. He is neither a Rudd nor Gillard partisan but has the benefit of remarkable disclosures from more than fifty 'on the record' interviews with all the major players. His revelations will provoke shock, admiration and dismay.
With a record of covering the Circus days with Poor Me and Rudd, Kelly will be well versed in writing about dysfunction, and knife throwing performances. However, I feel he might have a problem though with the "approved era" (post September 2013) because there appears to be no leader of the Opposition other than Palmer!
