As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Group of about 25 asylum seekers arrives on Christmas Island without being detected
Yes they did, in that case, and they were also discovered and their presence /details were published in OUR media from local media and authorities reports. Then according to immigration law the asylum seekers were taken into immigration detention.
My valid comment, which still stands, is why have none of the above actions been repeated? Or do you now, D9275, accuse the authorities and/or the ABC of being lax/secretive, and the Jakarta Post of being a de-facto Washington Post, a Christmas Island Watergate (open) perhaps?
Research (sorry) immigration law apropos "landing'
(2013 Sixty-six asylum seekers have landed within the harbour limits of Geraldton in Western Australia, undetected)

dec. 2013 - new govt. did not have their code of secrecy properly implemented yet then and the Australian newspaper is an Australian newspaper is it not?
Just a few posts ago you were saying it wasn't even possible
What nonsense, do you think a landing on Christmas Island would eventually go unnoticed by the"locals"
Read the Australian" it is a report based upon OS "news" with no confirmation.
My comment was that if anybody had landed on Christmas Island it would not go unnoticed,, and it would certainly be yelled about by MYOPS, and the "pink"media, but via the Jakarta Post?, which A3 regards as a "font", if it "fits", like yourself.
It did not happen judging by the sources, however, what is your point? Do you wish to return to Rudd's answer and many drownings, or just post anything (sans research) that sounds "good:?

After two pages of rude posts trying to discredit an article in the JP. Rude? pointing out the obvious bias and lack of supporting evidence, the article discredits itself, and those who "grasp" at it from Australia, purely on partisan grounds.
Chuckle, and with the combined media resources of Australia, the ALP, and Shorten (who?) not jumping up and down, why would that be?
D9275 I suggest you research (sorry) Christmas island and its social infrastructure together with its interaction with the Australian mainland, because it is certainly not a government department.
"i think I will just no longer bother to respond. "
I will perhaps,as G58 terms it , not poop my pants

A former senior federal MP was named on an official "persons of interest" list regarding the AWB corruption scandal but had their name later removed in mysterious circumstances, a Senate committee had been told.
The explosive allegation came as the Senate's legal and constitutional affairs references committee on Tuesday tabled two vastly differing reports into allegations a federal police taskforce into AWB's alleged bribes to Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime was prematurely shut down for political reasons.
Labor and the Coalition produced a short majority report finding the allegations by former veteran federal police officer Ross Fusca that his taskforce was prematurely shut down not to be supported by evidence.
But the Greens, who through Senator Penny Wright hold the position of committee chairman, released a detailed minority report that recommended the Senate use its powers to compel the federal police to produce the secret legal advice it received to justify closing down the AWB taskforce set up after the 2006 Cole Royal Commission into the scandal
I wonder who?

A3 : "The Jakarta Post ranked second on a list of Indonesia's most popular newspapers compiled by 4 International Media and Newspaper, as published on its website www.4imn.com."
Indonesia's most popular newspapers "The Jakarta Post ranked second" ?
Really, in a country the size of Indonesia , a newspaper with a circulation of 40,000?
"More than 50 principal daily newspapers are published throughout the archipelago, the majority in Java Those with the largest readership are Kompas (Jakarta), circulation of 523,000; Suara Merdeka (Semarang), circulation of 200,000; Berita Buana (Jakarta), circulation of 150,000; Pikiran Rakyat (Bandung), circulation of 150,000; and Sinar Indonesia Baru (Medan), also with a circulation of 150,000."
Perhaps the Indonesians use a different means of calculating circulation figures!.

The Government is yet to reveal the cost of setting up mandatory data retention, with the bill set to pass as early as today.
The Senate yesterday began debating contentious data retention laws in its final parliamentary hurdle before what is set to be a vote in support of the legislation.
The Coalition wants Australians' phone and internet data kept for two years and will help companies with the cost of buying and installing new equipment.
Attorney-General George Brandis said the Government had received a wide range of estimates for set-up costs during talks with the telecommunications industry.
