Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Doctors slam Coalition's 'calamitous' plan for new WA medical school

The federal government has ignited a new battle with the Australian Medical Association (AMA) after announcing the opening of a new medical school in Western Australia, which the head of the association has labelled “calamitous” for those involved.

The new medical school will be operated through Curtin University and will have 60 undergraduate positions by 2017, rising to 110 positions by 2022. The federal government will put in $20m a year in the first years of operation, with the state and university covering all the capital funding for the school.

The federal electorate of Hasluck, where the new facility will be based, is held by the Liberal party’s Ken Wyatt with a margin of just 0.6%.

“The case is very strong. On a per capita basis we are 900 to 1,000 doctors short in Western Australia compared with the country as a whole,” Barnett said.

But president of the AMA, Brian Owler, said the announcement was a “calamitous” captain’s call by Abbott that will do little to fix the shortfall in doctors.

He argued the country simply cannot sustain more medical students because of the shortage of internships and training places for graduates.

“This announcement will cause chaos in the medical training pipeline,” Owler said. “I think it will be calamitous for the people involved.”

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

On Sunday, Mr Bolt, a prominent critic of the ABC accused the host of Lateline Emma Alberici and 730's Leigh Sales of conducting biased interviews during Tuesday night's budget coverage

The Minister noted that two conservatives, Amanda Vanstone and Tom Switzer, have been recently appointed to host programs but was immediately accused of running "ABC spin" by Bolt.

Yes, that was one of the main points in the other article posted about Captain Chaos' latest captain's call.

The graudates will move back East if there are no internsips/training places in WA.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Joe Hockey hasn't moved on from the 'lifters and leaners' and is still trying to pit working people against those who are eligbile for and receive welfare payments.

This article just makes Hockey look plain stupid imo, very unrealistic at the least. Does he not value families at all? Single parents (and couples with children) out of work or on low incomes are just as valuable members of society as any other person.

Why doesn't he visit and speak with a single parent and a couple, with children who are unemployed, and a single parent or couple who work and receive a  low income and receive welfare as well (welfare that they are entitled to under current laws).

Then lets see if he still thinks they are 'welfare rich'.

1. A single parent with two children has 3 people to feed and clothe and accomodate. A single person has self only to support

2. Full time worker without kids - again has one person (self) to support and accomodate. Single parent with 2 children under six has three people to support and accomodate

Apart from that welfare payments for parents are reduced when youngest is 6yo  (?) From then (I think) they are equivalent to Newstart allce (low around $250 a week).

Avg rent would be at least $20 000 a year for a family.

The Govt collects taxes and redistributes the money to areas of need, including social welfare. No surprise there.

Joe blasts ‘welfare rich’ who have more money to spend than workers

TAXPAYERS have a right to know how much welfare they are really paying for, Treasurer Joe Hockey said.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph, [Cat LOL] Mr Hockey said he had insisted that the federal Budget papers reveal the true disparity in disposable income between people who worked full-time and those who received welfare.

The figures show that singles earning $80,000 a year have less disposable income than a single parent with two kids earning $30,000 when welfare is factored in.

And a double-income family earning $100,000 is in some cases paying no net tax when childcare assistance and middle class welfare are offset against income tax.

Mr Hockey has demanded that the Budget papers reveal for the first time the disposable income, tax contribution and welfare bill for households to help voters understand where their tax is going.

The figures show a single parent with two children under six who earns $30,000 a year can generate a disposable income of around $66,000 when welfare is factored in.

By comparison, a full-time worker without kids would need to earn around $90,000 a year to generate a similar disposable income.

The figures also reveal that pensioners can have assets worth $400,000, not including the family home, and still claim $30,000 a year in welfare.

A full-time worker earning an average salary of $79,454 would need to work for nearly 18 months to pay enough tax to fund one such yearly pension.

While the figures may shock some voters, Mr Hockey said taxpayers had a right to know.

“You need everyone to pay tax [ first you have to have a job, income to do that, dumbo] . Individual income tax is $190 billion. Social security and welfare spending is $154 billion,” said Mr Hockey.

“People need to know where their taxpayer money is going. This gives them the chance to see - and if they are receiving payments, it doesn’t come from a money tree in Canberra, it comes from someone else’s taxes.’’

The figures also show families where both parents work are also substantially better off because they enjoy two tax-free thresholds. For example, if a family is earning $100,000 a year with a single breadwinner they have a disposable income around $7000-a-year less than if both parents were working for the same combined income.

Mr Hockey revealed that a shift worker he met inspired him to publish the information.

“I met a cleaner in a building in Sydney and he said, ‘I work really hard, how many people am I supporting with my tax?’. I said, ‘How much do you earn?’ and he said ‘about $70,000’, which is a bit less than average wages. And he works through the night, every night. And he said ‘Why don’t you tell me?’”

Mr Hockey said he wasn’t surprised by the figures.“That’s what it is. The Budget papers are about transparency.”

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Uh-oh

Joe Hockey fires back at the AMA's Brian Owler

Treasurer Joe Hockey has launched a blistering attack on Australian Medical Association president Brian Owler's "extreme" criticism of the prime minister, while defending a federal government decision to help fund a new medical school in Perth.

But Tony Abbott stopped short of endorsing his treasurer's comments, stressing he had a great deal of respect for the doctor's body and instead responding to the specific policy concerns raised by Dr Owler.

Dr Owler told Fairfax Media the decision to fund the medical school a "calamitous captain's call" because the AMA believed the country already had too many medical schools pumping out graduates who cannot find internships or specialist training places.

But Mr Hockey said those comments were "certainly not fitting for someone representing a great profession. Quite frankly, I think his comments were out of order".

"I think the broader medical profession would not take the view of Brian Owler. Frankly, given that Western Australia does have the fewest number of doctors," he said.

Labor treasury spokesman Chris Bowen said Dr Owler was a respected medical professional and that Mr Hockey, who has a "glass jaw", should apologise to the AMA chief.

"If Dr Owler, as head of the AMA doesn't agree with the government, he has a job to do and he is entitled to do it," he said.

A3: "A little research before posting and you wouldn't have made that inaccurate post. This was your incorrect assertion "NO"

Admitting wrong means nothing, as research before posting would have prevented the inaccurate claim. The other poster was informing you of the correct outcome, which you choose to ignore.

Research you say A3?  because "The other poster was informing you of the correct outcome,"  is WRONG.  G58 actually wrote:

"Hasn't Slipper been cleared?" and nothing within my incorrect reply:  "no" ,  about "Slipper didn't win an appeal"

That was a "serious"  mistake,  your version,  fabricated, again.

"One error, I shall be reminded to post about whenever I see others being told to 'research' before posting."

Serious? but I admitted to my mistake,    whereas you penned a childish (unbeliveable) excuse for a deliberate "error"  falsification (note the commas)

Admitting wrong means nothing,  Really ?, you have a rather strange philosophy but are not alone herein , because making a statement in error is somewhat rather less serious than FABRICATING one deliberately

"research before posting would have prevented the inaccurate claim"

Physician heal thyself, because I have still not noticed your explanation for this " inaccurate claim"  (unless you were testing us)

A3: "David Marr "She had a sense of humour and a sense of the ridiculous, and yet at the same time she had complete control of a room." When in fact the author was long-time Labor staffer Michael Cooney,  and your again disingenuous answer when your mistake was pointed out :

" I got David Marr from the previous paragraph. I'm not bothered who said it."

A3:  "Admitting wrong means nothing"
