Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I always felt that Morrison had zero compassion, Myo (despite his desperate attempts to be mr nice guy in his new portfolio) and that report absolutely confirms it.

Meanwhile, I've just heard a report on ABC radio that non-government detention centre workers have been referred to the Federal Police for speaking out on conditions therein. More messenger-shooting by this government.

This just in: our ambassador has returned to Indonesia. Wow!! A whole month!!! That'll send 'em a message. Compare that to the Indonesians withdrawing their ambassador for six months over a little phone-tapping.

Immigration Department confirms Sarah Hanson-Young was spied on

The Immigration Department has confirmed Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young was spied on during her visit to Nauru by at least one Wilson Security officer who may have had a "brain explosion".

This directly contradicts comments by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, who said last week that the spying claims were "complete nonsense", labelling Senator Hanson-Young as an "embarrassment to this country".

honestly you have to laugh at these people, first it was denied, now they're saying it was one person's 'fault' (brain explosion?))  Woman LOL

Gosh a new tag team.

I am concerned that D9275 has not opened the innings today,  as is normal,  I do hope everything is OK

"This just in: our ambassador has returned to Indonesia. Wow!! A whole month!!! That'll send 'em a message."

What message would you suggest? Something along the lines of;  we wish to interfere in the legal process of a sovereign state in that they not be allowed (we say) to apply a widely known and publicised  death penalty for convicted drug traffickers.

"A sovereign state is a state with borders where people live, and where a government makes laws and talks to other sovereign states. The people have to follow the laws that the government makes."

Oh good you are OK D9275.

Who with any brain would  "spy" on Hanson-Young and her ramblings on NAURU? Why would a private contractor bother, or even the Nauru authorities?

Here's a hypothetical for you, Monman. Suppose ISIS is victorious in Syria and establishes a legitimate government. Would you be fine with their application of any and all new laws they introduce? As long as they publicise them, of course.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Did anyone hear about this?   If it is true, we are being governed by hypocrisy at its worst.

Australian officials paid people smugglers to turn back to Indonesia, says police chief

Australian officials paid thousands of dollars to the captain and crew of a boat carrying asylum seekers, who were then returned to Indonesia, according to passengers and an Indonesian police chief.

Sixty-five people from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, who were seeking asylum in New Zealand, had their boat intercepted by Australian navy and Customs officials in late May, and were then returned to the island of Rote.

The Indonesian police chief on Rote, Hidayat, said the six crew members said they had been given $US5000 each by Australian officials. The crew were apprehended when they arrived at Rote and are being processed for people-smuggling offences.
