Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

M1C,  I wonder what the Kudos is actually for,  a link sans any comment   http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/jun/10/peter-dutton-invokes-on-water-secrecy-over-cla...

or perhaps because  it makes no sense and has not been supported by  the Kudosers Jakarta Post "favourite":  Lets see the (weak) link story:

The claims were aired in reports by Radio New Zealand and Fairfax Media based on comments from passengers who were onboard a boat that was stopped by Australian navy and customs officials in May.

Nazmul Hassan from Bangladesh told Radio New Zealand the officials paid at least $A7,200 to the captain and crew for each passenger.

Hidayat, who is the police chief on the Indonesian island of Rote where the crew members are now detained, told Fairfax Media the six crew members said they had been given $US5,000 each by Australian officials.

โ€œI saw the money, the $5,000 was in $100 bank notes,โ€ he said. The crew had a total of $30,000 wrapped in six black plastic bags, Hidayat told Fairfax.

Guardian Australia has been unable to independently verify the claims.

Do you really expect that "Australian navy and customs officials" would be in possesion of $468,000 in cash , let alone hand it over to the smugglers? Even if the other version ($30,000) is considered, that also is nonsensical.

Now a somewhat more plausible report from the  Jakarta Post  3June,  which for some reason has not printed a word apropos what would be a headline story in Indonesia:

The Australian Navy prevented around 65 Rohingya boat people from entering its territory on Tuesday, pushing them back to Rote waters in eastern Indonesia.

Rote Ndao Police chief Adj. Comr. Hidayat said on Wednesday that the police held the asylum seekers after they were stranded at Landunit Beach. They were then evacuated to Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.

"They were saved by local fishermen before being handled by the police," Hidayat said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.

The Rohingyas were from Myanmar (one person), Sri Lanka (54) and Bangladesh (10). "Three of them are children and four are women," Hidayat said.

Kajuran, one of the migrants from Sri Lanka, said he wanted to seek asylum in Australia because of the difficult life in his home country. He claimed that each of the asylum seekers had paid US$6,000 to certain people to reach Australia.

"unable to independently verify the claims."  (So why print it and why link to it here?)

The Guardian  Says it all, and why  has it appeared here, sans any research, or  thought?  I think the latter is applicable.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

and this story is just umm-ah... no comment from me

http://www.smh.com.au/comment/view-from-the-street/view-from-the-street-its-ok-everyone-the-pms-daug...

PM's daughters can buy houses, so what's the problem?

And the whole is-housing-too-affordable debate has taken another exciting turn with the Prime Minister Tony Abbott taking the heat off Joe Hockey's poor people don't buy houses thing earlier in the week by taking to the 2GB airwaves to explain that his daughter Louise's successful purchase of a property in Canberra demonstrates how today's young people can totally afford to buy, even with student debt

It's a bold claim, given that Canberra property is cheaper than in most cities - partially because Louise's dad conveniently sacked a bunch of public servants who then sold up at below average prices since they had no jobs. Property: it's all about timing!

Luckily, despite all those public service job cuts, she still managed to score a position with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which is presumably a "good job [that] pays good money", as the Treasurer so wisely advised. Lucky old her, eh?

Still, the fact that Louise is juggling a mortgage and a HECS debt must make her envy sister Frances who has no student debt since, as you might recall, she won a super-secret no-application unadvertised scholarship at Whitehouse Institute of Design (a place which allegedly offers no scholarships) before being given a sweet job there - one which, as far as anyone can tell, didn't require her to do anything grubby like "work"

But since Australia's a resolute meritocracy, there's no chance that the Abbott daughters have ever benefitted in any way whatsoever from whatever it is that their parents do - so again, how hard can it be? Just get a free education, or a sweet gig in the shrinking public service, and you're set!

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

It's been quite a day on the airwaves for "the boys". First out of the blocks was Toneless with his anti-windfarm rant on Alan Jones' radio show.

(Here in Brissie, we've outsourced a fair chunk of 4BC's content to A.J. and Ray Hadley and sacked the local jocks......oh joy! 4BC is terrific if your idea of entertainment is 60% ads, 40% rant chat.....but I digress).

Then we have this schoolboy effort from Hadley and Peter Dutton: http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/ray-hadley-and-peter-dutton-accused-of-sexism-...

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"this story" ???

"......Louise's dad conveniently sacked a bunch of public servants........"

Federal government workplaces are expected to cull more than 4000 jobs over the next 11 months, an analysis of this month's economic statement suggests.

The staffing purge would be the worst in 15 years, and the toughest under a Labor government since Paul Keating's 1994-95 budget.

Oops, the forbidden history period! (sorry) starring Poor Me and Rudd

2014

An analysis by The Canberra Times last year of five years' data, detailing 8760 redundancies, shows most payouts (62 per cent) under the Rudd and Gillard governments were given to staff aged over 50, and more than one in five to employees over 60.

Oops,  naughty history again (sorry)

would appear to have also "overlooked" the reduction of  public servants in the time of the Circus

"It's a bold claim, given that Canberra property is cheaper than in most cities" Most cities?.   Really? that sounds similar to:

"there have often been very large discrpencies between Newspoll and the other polls,"  and is also incorrect.

"But since Australia's a resolute meritocracy"   forgetting (again),  that the days of the Circus somewhat undermine  that trite comment  to the point that those Circus days could best be described as a  vacillant adhocracy.

No      Kudos.jpgfor me from the reserve tag-team.

If the answer to the next question is yes, then the answer to the above question will be yes.

Will the government be talking up terrorism and rattling the sabre in the near future?
