As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

that''s a strange one
but you left this bit out
A spokesman for Mr Shorten said the Opposition Leader had misheard the question.
The spokesman said Labor had voted in favour of legislation introducing the change last year and remained supportive.
I saw a funny one today too and i wondered if abbott had also misheard the question when he answered it with something totally irrelevent to what he was being asked

Don't overestimate Islamic State threat: Malcolm Turnbull
The threat posed by the Islamic State terror group should not be overstated, and critics of new national security measures should not be denounced, Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said.
In a speech that strikes a jarringly different tone from recent remarks by Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Mr Turnbull said on Tuesday evening that making "tough" national security polices might be popular but "can still be a mistake".
"Denouncing those who question the effectiveness of new national security measures as 'friends of terrorists' is as stupid as describing those who advocate them as 'proto-fascists'."
In other remarks, Mr Turnbull said few people today believed that the 2003 invasion of Iraq was "not a tragic error".
interesting comments from Turnbull

I find it interesting too Deb. Do you think he will soon throw his hat in the ring? What's the bet he does appear on QandA next week.

he still hasn't mentioned whether he will go against his orders or not Joono, very interesting that he's made comments that are the very opposite of what abbbott's been putting out
also some Lib's are demanding that Ray Martin step down from the ABC investigatiion due to his comments about abbott being 'silly"
what has happened that if someone disagrees with you they should be shut down?? that's not the Australia that i grew up in

"interesting comments from Turnbull " and they receive a tag team Kudos !. I hope Turnbull appreciates it, or is it for the actual author, Wroe, or the deft C&P?
Anyhow, what are any actual constructive thoughts apropos the Age article, which I guess (know) is not black-listed like the "awful" DT?
I notice that Turnbull commented within the article :
"He also said the government had so far got the balance right between security and liberties but urged that "in order to ensure we continue to do so, this conversation is one that should proceed in a considered manner respectful of the views and experience of others".
"In other remarks, Mr Turnbull said few people today believed that the 2003 invasion of Iraq was "not a tragic error".
But, but, but, that is "history", is that allowed here, even if it is an "interesting comment"?

the article and comments were made/printed yesterday, ( if you check the date) so not old history. in fact very current (not old archived material )
is that your very best???

"the very opposite"?
Show us.
Turnbull;
""He also said the government had so far got the balance right between security and liberties but urged that "in order to ensure we continue to do so, this conversation is one that should proceed in a considered manner respectful of the views and experience of others".
"a considered manner " What does that mean?

Former prime minister Paul Keating has likened ABC TV's Q&A program to the Punch and Judy show, saying he wouldn't be seen dead on it.
Fronting a Brisbane audience to promote his new book last night, Mr Keating said Q&A sometimes had reasonable panellists but often featured a "ragtag" bunch.
Mr Keating questioned whether government ministers should even participate in the weekly current affairs-focused show fronted by Tony Jones, saying they sometimes shared a stage with people "of no note whatsoever".
"I wouldn't be caught dead on it," Mr Keating said.
"If I was the prime minister I would not let federal ministers go on that program. You just wash the government through mud every time you turn up."
Mr Keating added: "If you go on Tony Jones's [show] you need a hip flask of mace."

it means he agrees with some of what abbott has said, but not all ( if you read the entire article in context)
