As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

@debra9275 wrote:It was an interesting QT today. My favourite part was Tony saying that both his statements are right
A) it was a fundraiser
B) it wasn't a fundraiser
Well maybe it was and may be it wasn't. Toxic Tony has been known to change his mind before.

Are you kidding ?
An important disclosure for anyone wanting to make a VOLUNTARY donation .
Compliance with the Commonwealth Electoral Act is mandatory but not so for Labor which has been unambiguously demonstrated in the Royal Commission
Will leave you to do some overdue ' research ' and not rely solely on media reports .

"however it makes that bizarre outburst on Shorten's credibility and his way of answering questions at TURC look a bit suss"
I think Shorten "got off" lightly, as he sounded like he believed he was still in the "House", and was playing to it !
I would suggest a study of RC's protocols/procedures and in particular evidence, hearsay, and the freedom allowed a commissioner in the course of the commission.
It is also worth, I think, pointing out that a Royal Commission is NOT a court of law and any adverse legal findings apropos individuals must, if considered relevant, then be prosecuted in a court of law according to due process.
It would seem even Shorten understood Hayden's behavior
"He has got a job to do," Mr Shorten said. "I get that. It's Tony Abbott's royal commission."

we'll just have to wait and see what happens next I suppose.
Shorten is no angel imo but neither are abbott and his team. here is the incident I was referring to (from an ABC article)
Commissioner Dyson Heydon QC took a moment to criticise Mr Shorten for the pace at which the hearing was proceeding, saying a lot of Mr Shorten's answers were "non-responsive".
"What you have been saying, in what I am calling non-responsive parts, may well be true, may well be relevant, [and] parts of it are very interesting," Mr Heydon told Mr Shorten.
"You, if I can be frank about it, have been criticised in the newspapers in the last few weeks and I think it is generally believed that you have come here in the hope that you will be able to rebut that criticism."I am not very troubled about that.
"What I am concerned about more is your credibility as a witness ... and perhaps your self-interest as a witness as well."
Mr Heydon encouraged Mr Shorten to curb some of his "extraneous" responses and try to answer questions directly.
"I do think some concentration on your part, on giving a proper answer, as full an answer as the question demands but no more than that, is in your interests and it's something [counsel assisting the inquiry Jeremy Stoljar] is entitled to," he said.
Labor frontbencher Brendan O'Connor criticised the commissioner's comments.
"It was a remarkable interjection, intervention, by the royal commissioner today to suggest that Mr Shorten should reduce his answers down to 'yes', 'no', or 'I don't recall'," Mr O'Connor said.
"He made some prejudicial comments about the appearance of Mr Shorten which I think calls into question the motives of the establishment of this royal commission.

"Hey, it's not my fault Tony has big problems with his captains calls and his party"
You would have thought that Abbott could have learned from Poor Me and her opportunist ''captain's pick''. when she stabbed Trish Crossan and chose Nova Peris. as a NT senator
No party problems either, as Peris was then not even a Labor Party member.

No, he didn't learn anything.... Ridiculed them as much as possible and turned out to be far worse himself... In less than 2 years
