As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition. Try these on for size:
Mr Abbott stressed the fact Australia already took the most refugees per capita of any country
He says Australia is already doing a lot when it comes to accepting asylum seekers, and that "we take more refugees than any other through the UNHCR on a per capita basis."
But is that statement correct? No.
According to the Refugee Council of Australia, Australia is not the world's most generous country when it comes to accepting refugees. It does not even rank in the top 20 countries.
yep. i still dont see the actual quote from
tony abbott, but this from your link is correct:
What Mr Abbott means when he says Australia takes more refugees on a per capita basis is that Australia takes more refugees on a per capita basis through its re-settlement program.
which is true according to the UNHCR -
refer to the table i posted in previous post.
the claim that tony abbott made it up
is incorrect.
dont believe everything you read.
its best to research the statistics yourself.

here you go; this is what abbott was
talking about:
Resettlement is the transfer of refugees from an asylum country to another State that has agreed to admit them and ultimately grant them permanent settlement. UNHCR is mandated by its Statute and the UN General Assembly Resolutions to undertake resettlement as one of the three durable solutions.
Resettlement is unique in that it is the only durable solution that involves the relocation of refugees from an asylum country to a third country. Of the 14.4 million refugees of concern to UNHCR around the world, less than one per cent is submitted for resettlement.
Only a small number of States take part in UNHCR's resettlement programme. The United States is the world's top resettlement country, while Australia, Canada and the Nordic countries also provide a sizeable number of places annually. In 2015, Italy became a new resettlement country and The Republic of Korea announced a three-year resettlement pilot programme, increasing the number of resettlement countries to 28.

only 28 countries with australia
ranked currently second.

Second isn't "more than any other".

hmmm... why is it that i can't find australia's
humanitarian resettlement ranking on the
refugee council of australia website but it
is mentioned on the UNHCR website?
i find that very odd. or maybe i just cant
see it. is it there?

perhaps the immigration department
is more up to date with the figures.
they keep changing, as you will no doubt
find out if you do your research.
