Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Every time Tony Abbott sticks his head up, he only gives cause for voters to reflect on the embarrassing aberration of his prime ministership.

I see the Abbott hate is still going strong. Who is interested? I wonder what will happen when he finally leaves politics, will the hate continue. What about Clive Palmer, he's put in jeopardy 750 jobs but not a word about that.

Tony, the gift that keeps on giving.

Much of the so called "hate" (a rather overblown and emotive term for criticism) is coming from his own side of politics. Even her majesty wasn't keen to join him for a cuppa.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

abbott is just a back bencher now- still grabbing media attention wherever he can. Personally I just wish he'd go away.  as you say  djilukilly, no-one is really interested in what he has to say -

as for Palmer, I wish he'd spill the beans in more detail on Brough and Pyne asking him to fund the ashby legal case ( which he refused to do)

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

so it looks like Murdoch gets control of the ABC by stealth , this woman worked for him for 13 years.

http://www.theage.com.au/national/audiences-could-pay-under-new-abc-boss-michelle-guthrie-20151217-g...

The user-pays model could also extend to podcasts and archived radio programs.

This could be achieved via as a pay-per-view (or listen) service or subscription-based streaming model.

Turnbull, and the majority of the ABC board, are understood to favour the approach, insiders say

Traditional media companies – especially News Corp – have been hostile to the ABC's entry into digital services

Incoming ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie oversaw one of Rupert Murdoch's biggest media failures, an attempt to bypass Chinese media ownership restrictions through a backdoor TV venture.

The audacious bid, undertaken when Ms Guthrie was chief executive of Mr Murdoch's Star TV network, infuriated the Chinese government and led to the re-imposition of strict media controls. Ms Guthrie left Star soon after the deal soured, saying she had "decided it is time for me to take a break"

Ms Guthrie will receive a pay rise on Mr Scott's salary, taking her total pay to about $1 million a year.

(and a payrise to boot)

Senior Liberal figure Christopher Pyne has privately lobbied a broadcaster to help stop independent senator Nick Xenophon from running a candidate in his seat.

In a series of text messages obtained by The Australian newspaper, Mr Pyne urges Adelaide radio host Leon Byner to "help" him by convincing Senator Xenophon not to run a candidate in the seat of Sturt.

wow - how pathetic!

in here is the list of of medical procedures on chopping block

http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2015/12/28/ama-concerned-medicare-cuts-will-raise-healthcare-cost...

and just a few points from this article

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/doctors-question-timing-of-medicare-cuts-by-he...

Doctors have criticised the Turnbull government for using the Christmas-New Year holiday period to reveal the first tranche of items to be dropped from the government-subsidised Medicare Benefits Schedule.

But Health Minister Sussan Ley insisted the established taskforces were always due to report back in "late 2015", accusing the Australian Medical Association of "misleading Australians" on the matter.

well, they couldn't have announced it much later in 2015 than now  Woman Surprised

doctors are 'misleading Australians"?  I don't think so

The government has proposed to no longer subsidise the injection of local anaesthetic during the removal of tonsils, for example.

it's mainly children who have their tonsils out- so I don't understand why they would cut this one
