Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

"Amnest International barred from Nauru detention centre."

"I don't know Joono, it's hard to believe a country like ours with such a good human rights record in the past doing things like this."

If one bothers to consider that Nauru is not an Australian external territory (country) it might be realised that as a sovereign nation it is the Nauru authorities that exclusively have the right of granting  access to their country by any person or group.

heres' a strange one.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/aussie-jihadists-were-on-the-dole/story-fni0cx12-122723304...

Writing exclusively in The Telegraph today, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he was “appalled” that the majority of those Australians joining terror groups had benefited from the welfare system

we had all these stores about Jihadists being on welfare and we were outraged by it

but now they say this

No foreign fighters have had welfare payments cancelled, Attorney-General's department says

he Attorney-General's department has confirmed not a single foreign fighter has had welfare payments cancelled under new laws because none were receiving payments, seemingly contradicting the Prime Minister's statement to Parliament.

Counterterrorism legislation passed by Parliament last October gave the Federal Attorney-General the power to cancel welfare payments for people involved in terrorism.

In February, News Corp reported that a "federal investigation" had found 96 per cent of Australians fighting with terrorist groups in the Middle East had been on welfare benefits, and that "most" had continued to collect those benefits after leaving Australia.

Writing in the same newspaper, Tony Abbott said he was "appalled" to learn that most foreign fighters had been on some form of welfare.

The following day, Mr Abbott was asked during Question Time about another report which claimed no foreign fighters had in fact had their welfare payments cancelled.

Mr Abbott told Parliament the report was incorrect.

"This is not correct. To the best of my knowledge and understanding, all of the foreign fighters who are currently overseas have had any welfare payments that they were receiving well and truly cancelled, as you would expect," he said.

In an answer to a Senate Estimates hearing, the Attorney-General's department confirmed it had been asked to consider four possible cases but that, as at February 24, 2015

, it was established that no individual was in receipt of any welfare benefit payments and it was therefore unnecessary to use the welfare cancellation on security grounds provisions".

huh??

Tony gets it wrong. Despite having a large bureaucracy at his disposal, he chooses to get his "facts" from News Corp.

I think he tries to say what he thinks the electorate wants to hear, Deb. He can be very loose with the facts (and figures).

There's this bit from the ABC article:

'Writing in the same newspaper, Tony Abbott said he was "appalled" to learn that most foreign fighters had been on some form of welfare.

The following day, Mr Abbott was asked during Question Time about another report which claimed no foreign fighters had in fact had their welfare payments cancelled.

Mr Abbott told Parliament the report was incorrect.'

So he takes the Telegraph's report on welfare jihadis at face value and does no fact checking on it. He's then told about another report stating that none of them are on welfare. This one doesn't fit with his "tough on terror" agenda of stripping benefits, so he dismisses it out of hand.

Instead of looking into the matter and expressing relief that the foreign fighters weren't receiving taxpayer funds, it seems that he'd prefer that they were, so he can look like mister action man.

p.s - yes Deb, we get into trouble here if we don't have an opinion....also if we do have an opinion. Robot Frustrated

I don't think he gets it wrong. I think he deliberately makes false statements to be used by the chosen press to give the impression that the falsity is a truth.
