that Ian Thorpe is gay?
It was front page news on one paper I saw at the shop this morning.
why do we need to know? what did it matter? we don't have headlines saying people are het?
Poor guy has been hounded for years over his soxuality, I hope he finds some peace and happiness now.

just*duff asked - "Did we really need to know?"
NO, it's none of anyone's business.
I hope he gets on with his life and ignores all those people who feel they have a need to know. What a boring life they must lead.

I like him and admire his achievements. Gay? who didnt know that? he has far more mental health and substance problems than being gay.
I wish him well.

I didn't know he was gay........I never thought about it................ ever. Of no interest or consequence to me at all.
It was a very small part of the interview, from what I have seen said by the interviewer and............I don't intend to watch it unless there is nothing else on at the time.

Thorpe's book - 2012
Thorpe insists in his book that, "for the record, I am not gay and all my sexual experiences have been straight". He argues that his interests in fashion and art and "beautiful things" have led to mistaken assumptions about him.

It shouldn't matter, except for the fact he's been
denying it for so many years.
I'm surprised at the number of people who didn't realise it.
It's about as astonishing (not) as Magda Szubanski
outing herself last year. I thought everybody already
knew that one as well

He's such a complex young man, I have a different respect and understanding for him after watching his interview, I now understand his denial regarding his sexuality. His denial became too big for him to admit, he didn't want to disappoint his parents his friends and the Australian public. I hope now he has finally opened up and owned his sexuality he can move forward and find the happiness he deserves. He's a great Australian who deserves our love respect and admiration.
Thanks Thorpie be proud of your achievements I hope you can find the peace and happiness you have denied yourself for many years.

People want to read about it.
People want to discuss it on forums
Media is a business and so can see a profit to be made
Profit is being made on details of his private life
Only fair he should get some of that profit.
i would if someone was making money out of my private life.
Supply and demand,
