Disabled New Zealanders living off Australian tax payers

I recently read the following article:

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/new-zealand-migration-to-australia-soars-40-per-cent/stor...

and found the mainly sympathetic story interesting in that there are quite stringent guidelines such as New Zealanders who have arrived in Australia since 2001 must wait 10 years to apply for the dole - which is cut off after six months - and their children cannot access the HECS loans scheme to attend university. Something I thoroughly agree with however there is an exemption for New Zealanders claiming disability pensions (including mental health claimants whose disability cannot always be 100% proven), allowing them to come here and live off us until they die.

Do you think this is right or should they be sent packing back to where they came from where their own government and people can support them?

PS. To any "bright" sparks in a dither that this article is 10 months old, SO WHAT? ๐Ÿ˜„

You are having a lend of us aren't you?

I don't know anyone who is laying about in poverty......................

I don't know any NZer's who get benefits either..................... and none who don't work.

It actually costs very little to have internet access, can be had free at the library.

Yes and you claim internet is very cheap (which I actually disagree with) and argue that New Zealand slackers are using the library instead of Australian tax payer funded welfare to use the internet when that's obviously incorrect unless you can direct me to an all night library?

Tell me, Goo, where's your proof that they are sitting around on the internet all day and/or night?

FALSE

Where do you get this tripe from?

Not entitled to any Govt pensions at all if arriving after a certain date in Feb 2001. (Excl Family Tax Benefit)

Dec 2013

New Zealand migration to Australia soars 40 per cent

Rubbish, more NZ'ers living in Australia have returned to NZ than the number of new ones arriving here. For the first time in 20 years.

That's what you get for posting out of date news stories.

July 2014

Fewer Kiwis migrating to Australia, statistics show

They've had improvement in their employment growth, in their incomes, more job opportunities, and also New Zealand's done some free trade agreements with Australia, but also China, so as a trading nation they've done quite well,โ€ said economist Tim Harcourt.

โ€œIt's more about the pull of New Zealand rather than anything negative in Australia."

The figures confirm past monthly statistics indicating New Zealanders are opting to stay home or come home as Australia faces tough economic times.

Migration has slowed to such a point that there was no net migration of New Zealanders to Australia in June, the first time this had happened since August 1991.

What people concerned? The ones receiving benefits? No, they don't pay tax.

I understand we have a reciprocal arrangement but the fact remains that more New Zealanders want to live in Australia than the other way around (which is understandable)

GST is a tax........................ so yes they do, however, what have they been doing during the last 10 years?  Working, I imagine and paying tax.

Yes, the last 13 years actually
