A voluntary recall of washing machines blamed for more than 200 fires across the country is being made mandatory in New South Wales.
In 2013, Samsung issued a recall on six types of top-loaders sold between 2010 and 2013.
Of the 144,000 machines sold across Australia, 55,000 were sold in NSW.

I've only recently bought a Samsung top loader. Rushed to check if it was affected and of course it's not. The initial recall was back in 2013 so they wouldn't still be selling them now if there was a problem.
If you have one of the affected machines then you'd have to be crazy to not get it looked at. The photos of what the fault can do are pretty scary!

Really scary pics.
But there's only been 51% of the machines returned or repaired, so
there's still a disaster, or more than one waiting to happen somewhere

I used to have one, just looked and mine is a Daewoo now.
I can't believe so few were returned.

I think thats because most buyers dont realise that a recall has been issued.

I do, but thankfully it's a front load model .... what a worry for people with the affected washers though, very inconvenient as well as dangerous ...

Samsung? .... front loaders?.. The other 49% have probably already gone to the rubbish tip.
