Do you eat meat on good friday? if so why and if not why not? is it a relig

Religious thing?

Religion being what it is today I would not think anyone would bother fasting, could be wrong?

Before Vatican II, Catholics  abstained from meat every Friday, as a form of penance in honor of the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross on Good Friday.

In the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 10:9-16), St. Peter has a vision in which God reveals that Christians can eat any food.

we voluntarily give up something as penance. (eg chocolate)

Under current Church law, the days of abstinence fall during Lent, the season of spiritual preparation for Easter.

On Ash Wednesday and all of the Fridays of Lent, Catholics over the age of 14 are required to abstain from meat and from foods made with meat. Of course it is a personal decision..........

Do you think fasting for religious reasons is silly in general or just the Catholic practice of fasting on Good Fridays? (I think  Orthodox Christians do that as well during their Lent)

Eve, I think it's silly in general, but it's entirely a matter of individual choice. If you show me somewhere in the Bible that says I shouldn't eat meat on Fridays, or that I should fast at ANY time then I'll change my opinion.

We'll have fish, just because we always do.

I think the fasting rule is man/church made.

I don't know about anyone else, but as far as I'm concerned Friday is the same as any other day as far as eating or not eating meat is concerned. There is nothing in the Bible to say otherwise. If anyone quotes the Old Testament of course, I'll say in advance that the Old Testament Laws were revoked by Jesus.

Just coz' you're saying so doesn't make it true. Jesus never rejected the OT.

Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets.  "Do not think that I
have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I
have come not to abolish
but to fulfill.  Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the
smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all
things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17)

Give me evidence that OT God is not the same God as the NT God.

I meant fasting  in general as in all religions ie Ramadan etc.....

I agree with you that it should be an individual choice and I also believe it should be respected.
