Religious thing?
Religion being what it is today I would not think anyone would bother fasting, could be wrong?

They have differing names for the same sort of thing, periods of fasting, Ramadan for example.
Lent is the Christian name for the period practise is all.
Christians dont practice Lent the same way as Muslims though. I've never abstained from intaking ALL foods during the hours between sunrise and sunset. ?:|

moorna12 - do you belong to any of them?
Read the last para of my post #74 Meep.
I clearly stated in it that "I observe NO connections to ANY religion"
I just find all form of history interesting.

7th April 30 AD ???
Thanks Eve guess that must have been a Friday I think he should die every year on the 7th April then, even if it is not a friday.
Because the 25th Dec falls on different days of the week every year and we don't change the day we die to a certain day we keep the date.
Anyway so far I have not eaten any meat today not for any reason just had baked beans on toast for breakfast, and a alantic salmon and prawn crepe for lunch.
think I might have some sausages and onion gravy for dinner. 😄

You may not have practises the STRICT observing of Lent Meep, and that's your choice entirely, but abstaining from ALL foods between sunrise and sunset is what it was, and still is, intended to be.

But at the time the present day calendars were not in use, so no-one could give the date of December 25.
This is why I said in my post #69 that Chistmas day does not exist at all, meerly a made up date.

It is all way too confusing to me moorna, the Jewish religion don't believe he has been born yet so therefore he could not have died maybe they are right who knows.
The thing I find really fascinating though no matter what anyone believes or not people always love to discuss religion in any of its forms, which I suppose means that the majority really want to believe something, they would just like some proof.

The period of 40 days for Lent is supposed to be all about FASTING, not anything else.
Generally fasting is considered to be the abstaining from intaking ALL foods during the hours between sunrise and sunset in all religions that practise it at any time.
Only the intake of water is okay during those hours.
I am pretty sure that is incorrect. Muslims are not allowed to drink water.

I agree with you about it all being exteremely confusing, even contradictory, but I am not personally interested in the in's and out's of any religion, only the history behind it all, and that includes the fact that the Roman Empire was invovled in it all too.
No-one can prove or disprove any of it as far as I can ascertain, which makes it something of a botched up guesswork job 😉

Good one Meep, but now tell me what Jesus Chirst ACTUAL birth date was.
Do that and I'll consider you to be a fantastic researcher B-)
Can you also tell me exactly what time he died? Or at least was the time of death before or after dark as one bible passge tells that it was after dark:
"Darkness was over the land Lk.23:44"
That's not as dumb a question as it may sound to you, and I'm not taking the P either, just clarifying one or two things I've been reading up on about the subject today.
Goodness! Sorry, honestly, feeling too lazy to do research today. ;\
