Religious thing?
Religion being what it is today I would not think anyone would bother fasting, could be wrong?

I am pretty sure that is incorrect. Muslims are not allowed to drink water.
They all were when I was in the Middle East during Ramadan one time.
Even they would suffer very badly in the heat if they had no intake of fluid what-so-ever.
They're not generally suicidal people or crazy ya know :^O
Have you any idea what happens to your body organs if you permit dehyration in such conditions?
Not nice I assure you and even death can result in such a realitively short space of time 😞

Goodness! Sorry, honestly, feeling too lazy to do research today. ;\
The only reason I am interested about the time of death, or near enough, was because of what Luke said about it being dark at the time.
His words make it clear that the entire event never happened at all any is only a cooked up story, because Hebrew law says that no burials can take place after dark on the Sabbath Eve (A Friday) and it is stated that Jesus was buried in the cave only a few hours after his death where he rose rom the dead 3 days later, (Sometime Sunday)

Moorna how about this for a thought, there are some countries where it is dark all the time no daylight at all, geography is not my strong point so I don't know if the middle east is near the north pole. 😄

I had a car mechanic at my place once. It was a very hot day, Ramadan must have fallen in the later part of the year. I offered him a glass of water, he refused and explained he was not allowed to drink anything, including water.
I have also attended high school with a large number of Muslim students. They were not allowed to drink water either, even during hot days.
I cant find any reference to 'dispensation' ??

You may not have practises the STRICT observing of Lent Meep, and that's your choice entirely, but abstaining from ALL foods between sunrise and sunset is what it was, and still is, intended to be.
I have always believed that Lent was more about spiritual preparation for Easter, not as you say, ONLY about fasting.

To be quite truthful about the subject it never entered my head to learn more about how it works Meep, only what I've seen with my own eyes when in the Middle East.
I saw at least a couple of Muslims take water during the hours of fasting then.
