It's not about the number, it's about understanding how a person's brain works. Different numbers indicate different characteristics and explain sometimes how the different wiring effects people's lives.

For example, a person was doing very poorly at school, the number of that test indicated that they were capable of doing better, that there was an underlying learning problem. In this case it was just the kid was deaf (which was already known) but it showed that different results were possible with the right treatment, that they were just struggling cos they were deaf iykwim.

Why we bother testing? So that people can be diagnosed or excluded from diagnosis for things such as Austism, Intellectual impairment, high brain function, speed of synapsis, in order to have an idea of how best to give them the care that they need and to understand any limitations that they may have.

Without that IQ vtest, that deaf boy was headed towards being treated and schooled as intellectually impaired.

Impossible to answer; are you talking about natural intelligence, being street smart or educated?

I know some people who are very inteligent (members of Mensa) but in the same time they are very narrow minded and not particularly well informed about some things.

Some people cannot spell for one reason or another; maybe they did not get to go to school much or grew up in another country with other language, but that does not mean they do not understand life, and some might be better informed than the above mentioned geniuses.  🙂

I'll be serious now and agree that there is a place for determining IQ if it will result in better treatment of a condition, but not when there is no need so you can compare yourself with others and feel superior.
