I'll be serious now and agree that there is a place for determining IQ if it will result in better treatment of a condition, but not when there is no need so you can compare yourself with others and feel superior.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
I can't see why people would boast about an IQ higher than average. It seems to be a bigger disability and learning restrictor. Plus it's almost cruel in a lot of ways.
For example a person with an IQ of 70 or below can be classified as having Austism. Now it is undeniable that they are "different" to a lot of the population, and they often get treated poorly because of this difference. However, as they are intellectually impaired, they aren't aware that they are different, and they don't realize when people are being mean.
Whereas someone with an IQ average or above average may still have autistic traits that do still make them "different' but they are aware that they are different, they are aware that their peers are being mean to them or that society thinks they are "odd" and it can hurt and confuse them.
People with differing IQ's have different traits and characteristics, their brains are wired differently. Their brains process and interpret things differently. Society doesn't like that difference very much.
an above average IQ is a disability.

Really podster? After your post last night where you state that with your higher intellect it's limiting to have a decent debate with the hoi polloi, does that make you one of the swine?
Oops, nearly missed a whole page of posts.
That was about the Desiderata quote.

The vast majority of contributors , or at least what pass for contributors, have a very limited understanding of most subjects that do not involve cats.
Then of course there are the pseudo intellectuals who attempt to display their knowledge not realising that that has the opposite effect to what they hope to achieve.
I only got to page 3 and it would appear an inflated ego is being misunderstood for a high IQ.
