Obviously, you did not listen to Gillard speaking; she is considered very intelligent, interesting and amusing speaker, that is why she is invited to speak. Or maybe what Gillard and Rudd said went right over your head; maybe you need the 3 word sentences that TA is so good at.
And Gillard doesn't have a prompting minder one foot away from her at all times.

The reality is tone is a buffoon who knows very little about economics and will stick to his narrow, short term political agenda no matter what the consequences for the rest of us.
What's the matter Boris? Worried that the free handouts are going to dry up?

Ms Gillard is considered so intelligent and interesting that she was able to maintain the position of Prime Minister for how long?
As an advocate for women and also for acheivements in two traditionally male dominated fields, I understand her value as a speaker, but apart from that, as you say, I am sure that her other acheivements are indeed considered amusing.
As I said, I have attended functions where even Warrick Capper was invited to speak.
I'd much prefer someone who knew how to run my country rather than a show posy with poorly, ill conceived and implemented ideas.
By your same reasoning, I have a problem with the suggestion that a person is not intelligent because she had a job taken away from her.
Her intelligence and general 'smartness' was acknowledged not only be members of her own party but also from members of the opposition (particularly before she took over the PM role) and certainly she is well regarded internationally.
And she was never a show pony. The opposite I would have thought. Her achievments (under extrordinary circumstances and during such a short time) were quite lengthy if you care to have a good look.

Crikey, I knew we would agree on something one day and i certainly agree with your sentence below which i have quoted, i think a lot of posts on this topic are actually saying just what you say in that 1 sentence.
"I'd much prefer someone who knew how to run my country rather than a show pony with poorly, ill conceived and implemented ideas."

What "free handouts" would they be crikey, am i missing out on something?

and the repercussions of those "acheivements" will take a long time to nullify.
anyway.
amyway, as I have always said, her acheivements and the very fact that she was able to attaion the position and qualifications that she did are things I have and do admire. And it is impossib;e to determine how well a operson is actually able to do a job until they're actually in the posuition of performimh it.
If Ms Gillard was able to perform the job of Prime Minister so well, and her acheivements so great, then why did not only her own party lose faith in her abilities, but the australian public as well.
They even reinstated the person she ousted rather than allow her to continue with her "acheivements"

The Financial Times UK’s economics editor, Chris Giles, tweeted:
'Sign of the times. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani packed out the hall. Everyone is leaving before Tony Abbott explains Australia’s ambitions for the G20 in 2014.'
Didn't Rudd and Gillard speak to near empty seats on many occasions?
Australia is a little fish in a big pond. Those arrogant leaders that expect us to offer aid in hard times, come to fight in their country when war breaks out and to take the people that flee from their country if fear don't even offer us the respect to stay and listen to what we have to say. All good.. lets not help them out any more.

The fact that the Australian people failed to understand how well the ALP government performed only reflects on them.
I am sure there are plenty of functions where footballers speak; to each his own.
Julia Gillard speaks at somewhat more up market functions, i would think.

Yes, I saw some of Gillards speech OS.. not sure what country but somewhere in the Middle East.
The woman that said she would call out misogyny when she saw it was asked a question regarding the way women are treated in Middle Eastern countries (can't recall the exact question) and Gillard answered in um'ss and ar's and lots of hesitation and then tells the audience I can't tell another country what to do... hahahahaha.. hows that calling out misogyny???
