In case you wake up a muslim convert..... or stupid
Of all the comments I read this would have to be the stupid of the week.

A WA Liberal MP has claimed Australians are unknowingly being converted to Islam by eating Halal meat.
In a speech to Parliament yesterday, backbencher Luke Simpkins said most Australians did not know that most of the meat they ate came from animals killed in accordance with Muslim law.
“By having Australians unwittingly eating Halal food we are all one step down the path towards the conversion, and that is a step we should only make with full knowledge and one that should not be imposed upon us without us knowing,” Mr Simpkins told Parliament.
“What is happening is wrong. Too often the minorities in this country are looked after without regard to the majority.”
Mr Simpkins said he had carried out an unofficial survey in his northern-suburbs electorate of Cowan and had discovered that most meat at major chains such as Coles or Woolworths had been killed under Halal conditions, but had not been labelled as such.
He tabled a petition demanding that all Halal meat be clearly identified, complaining people could not buy meat for their “Aussie barbecue” without the influence of the “minority religion”.

nah....religion doesn't make people stupid...Kopernik was a religion man.....so was Lemaitre....
people will always find something to fight about...
greed would have to be the main reason.....I think you will find that all religions teach greed is a sin/misconduct.

I didn't post it for a religious or any other fight.
It was so stupid it was funny, is all.

It's not stupid. Some people don't care if their meat has been killed in what amounts to a religious ritual and some people do, especially if if it's their religion and usually incidentally if it's not their religion.
Should people have the right to know if their meat has been killed according to a particular religious ritual?
It's just that I'm thinking of opening up this Satanist butcher shop, you see? ]:)

I agree with him!
I do not purchase anything that supports pain and suffering to animals!
The killing of animals slowly bled to death with a knife I will never support!
I boycott ALL products with halal certification or companies that support this!

It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that ANY animal whose meat you might eat in Australia has slowly bled to death. As pointed out in the link I provided in #52. the killing of animals without prior stunning is illegal in Australia. while there is currently a loophole used by a MINISCULE number of abattoirs to kill sheep (and sheep only) without stunning them, the market for this meat would be VERY small and would comprise Orthodox Jews as well as Muslims. The chances of meat killed in this way making it into your local supermarket is practically non- existent.
There are of course, a greater number of abattoirs where a blessing is said over the animals as they are slaughtered, but I find it hard to believe any intelligent person would feel themselves unable to buy the meat for this reason. How would such person cope if they attended a dinner where a clergymen of some other denomination than their own was called upon to say grace?
Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all MONOTHEISTIC, biblically based religions, so whether the blessing is asked in the name of God, Jehovah or Allah, it is still the same God that is being invoked.
As far as I can see the only people who might be expected have a genuine complaint are atheists and I doubt very much whether any of us give a tinker's cuss about meaningless words are spoken in an abattoir.

all abattoirs are highly regulated as far as animal welfare is concerned.
I asked about ritual slaughter via our AQIS inspector.
his answer was none were done last year.
just because they can be done doesn't mean they are. you need to apply and they need to be supervised.
if you read the links it says CAN and MAY, not ARE.
all cattle dogs need to be muzzled.
I am currently pushing for a run to be made for our dogs at work, they are spending too much time in a small cage/enclosure.

the answer is easy become a vegetarian then no animal needs to be killed. i do believe that people have a right to practice their religious beliefs. otherwise we are no longer living in a democracy. i think things should be marked so that you can choose to eat or not eat items that are handled in specific ways. there are some truly terrible ways animals are treated throughout the world, it breaks my heart. it is one thing for food but far worse when it is used for vanity and fashion and when synthetic items can be used as replacements. i have stopped using a major brand name because they went back to animal testing for the chinese market. i won't buy leather and am working to become vegetarian because i don't want any animal killed for my benefit.
