It constantly surprises me that some groups such as UN are constantly naming Australia as a major offender when it comes to human rights, but hey, never a whisper about some of the countries in the middle east or Africa.

Here is an update. She got released. Seems the wine story she made up.

IMHO quite a bit of fault is either with Emirates check-in staff (or whoever does the check-in for Emirates). They are by law required to check passports according to their visa data base (Timatic). She should not have been allowed to board.

I am aware that UAE has some strange laws, but this case isn't a good example. This would have happen in many other countries too.
