Today as I left my home I could hear a noise, looked up and noticed a drone (with camera attached) flying over my backyard and continuing on over my neighbours and the whole block. I then noticed a van driving slowly and it appeared the passenger in the van was controlling the drone. My OH is furious and says this is an invasion of privacy, Ive since checked the CASA website and it says that you are not allowed to fly over people's backyards. I should have got the rego. Who would do this? Real Estate? surely they would know the rules though? Anyone shed any light?

I would be inclined to start with the local police.
They should be informaed if it is a legit operation and if it isn't they may have had some information/complaints from other neighbours.

CASA regulations state that hobbyists who fly for no commercial gain cannot fly their drones:
โข Within 3 nautical miles of an airport;
โข Above 400 feet in controlled airspace (large towns and cities);
โข Over populous areas;
โข Within 30 meters of people;
โข At night.
