I came here to see whats crackin but there isnt many threads I want to comment on - very serious business here!
So I start my own dumb question thread - which I probly be the only one asking - ha ha
But I wanna know: When you buy a roast chicken from the supermarket and theres some left - when do you put it in the fridge? When its still hot or do you leave it out to cool down or what?
And yes I am serious.............

Erica, I buy the sliced packaged ham where you get two separate single serves in a pack. That way it never gets wasted.
It may not be that economical but then neither is using up left over ham because it's gone yukky.

On sliced ham ... if you buy a big chunk of ham ... and wrap it in cotton which has been soaked in water and vinegar ... then it will last for a lot longer ... it depends on how much ham your family eats.

That's true. You can usually buy ham leg bags around Christmas time. I don't usually by a big leg of ham at Chrissy but when I did I used to store it in a pillow slip in the fridge. Then I'd have to throw the pillow slip out because I couldn't imagine using it again. The ham bags usually cost around $4 I think.

If the hot chicken is in a container with lid or the foil bag it comes in from the supermarket I can't see how iit would contaminate other food in fridge.
The chicken needs to be kept at a low temp. so bacteria doesn't grow in it. Cross contamination would only occur if two food products were in contact, e.g. Fresh meat dripping on other food in the fridge.

Talking of my son ... what is it with teenagers and fruit and vegetables?
I just made burgers (mince, egg, flour), and chopped up tomato, cucumber, lettuce heart, beetroot, and cheddar. Then I cut slices from a baguette and added the meat and veges and cheese. I added sugar snap peas on the side.
So, the kid has been telling me for years that he doesn't like fruit and vegetables. They're icky, yucky, horrible, revolting etc.
He eats his burgers with meat.
THEN ... he eats all the leftover veges ... crunch crunch crunch on all of them and they're gone.
He always does this ... protests against the idea of eating vegetables and then munch munch munch.
Fruit ... I buy him fruit every week. It goes into his bedroom fridge ... and it gets eaten.
Do other parents have kids who protest about their green, red, yellow, pink, orange items, but eat them without much persuasion?

My boys have always been good fruit and veg eaters Katy, or at least they used to be. I was constantly refilling the fruit bowl every day because they were a couple of little fruit bats. Now not so much but they enjoy all vegetables.
Does your son have a bedroom fridge? Goodness! Please don't tell my sons that!

Joono ๐ how old are your boys?
The fridge wasn't bought for him ... or his bedroom. We had two other fridges in my shop and one of them ended up in his room. The fridge in the kitchen is pretty small, so this was a special treat for him and his "stuff", but also a place to put things that wouldn't fit in the kitchen fridge.
He likes it generally.
But, remember ... with great power, comes great responsibility ๐
He has to deal with me storing stuff in it.
