Easter Special: The Historicity of the Resurrection.

Without using "faith, is it possible to prove historically that Jesus Rose from the Dead?

These are the main evidence for the resurrection of Jesus based on foremost Christian Apologists.

Jesus was crucified

Tomb was found empty

Women are reported as Witnesses to his empty tomb

Jesus' followers and Paul(an Enemy) saw Jesus after he died.

The best explanation is that Jesus Rose from the dead according to apologists.

Do these "facts" convience you?

No, he died on Nisan 14 according to the Jewish Calendar, the one that was in force at that time. Since then we have invented a new Calendar so it's still Nisan 14 which happens to fall on different dates in our calendar. You can look it up - google 'Nisan 14'.

Earliest Easter Dates from 1753 - 2400. In 325CE the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox.

Sorry, I can't help myself.

For those claiming to be Christian ie follows of Christ, what did Jesus command his apostles?

1. Celebrate my birth - No.

2. Celebrate my Resurrection - No - so Sunday is not it.

3. He commanded his Apostles to 'keep doing this in rememberance of me' - what was he referring to? The Last Supper - taking of bread and wine - the symbols of his sacrifice on behalf of mankind - an ANNUAL event. Conclusion: who among all the Religions follows Jesus commandment? There are plenty of Religions that take the bread and wine weekly, daily etc etc BUT does anyone take those symbols ONCE a YEAR as commanded by Jesus?

Rabbit, if you are addressing me, I long ago decided not to share my personal Religious practises here. The information is merely about the date.

Easter Special: The Historicity of the Resurrection.

Hello Mr. Rabbitearbandicoot,

The only thing I think about any of this is that in consideration of what has happened since the birth and death of Jesus, (that is to say, the appalling behaviour of various churches, the abuse of children, the murder of non christians ... and christians killing each other ... , the sheer disobedience and defiance of their own faith/s in order to get what they want) is that the ten commandments meant nothing to those kind of christians, come Jesus, and still didn't all those years later with the new testament.

The old testament is filled with the spilling of blood, murder, mayhem, cruelty and general appalling behaviour all blamed on their god, but of course, nothing to with any divine entity .. poor god was a scapegoat for it all.

If god really made man in his own image (and I don't beleive that) then what is one to think of the state of the human condition as it really is?

As for religious holidays, those are traditions like any other and they happen as tradition for the secular and religious communities.   Not all who share in it are attached to the original purpose they had nothing to do with, but indeed, the spirit of it (not necessarily a holy one) is sweet and can be one of simply sharing good thoughts and feelings with others to keep and make peace.

To add to that, I do think that the person of Jesus was a very good man, a radical, and someone who really wanted to make a difference, and did to some degree.  It would have been a great experience to meet him and talk with him ... Smiley Happy
