Economic policy

The whole World is being run by imbecilic morons.
They all believe that the failing economies will right themselves by continuing to do the same things that have brought us here.
There's only one pie.
The more the one percent have the less the rest of us have.
These morons think we're magically going to start spending more money when we have less every year.

Oh, that old chestnut.
You probably didn't mean it but you just vilified those on Newstart.
I'm on Newstart.
I'm injured and will be for nearly two years.
I would do anything to be off Newstart.
I'd happily kill myself.
That's how much I hate it but ny sister hasn't recovered from my father's suicide in 1979 so I could never do that to her but if she died tomorrow so would I

Very genuine question Martin - have you and your sister seen a suitable Psychiatrist to help come to terms with your families loss ? I used to be the typical Australian bloke and not have much time for all of that weak, namby pamby stuff, but having seen the good work some of these professionals do I,m now a complete convert.

You can go to your local GP and get a mental health care plan that entitles you to a number of free sessions, so expense is not a reason to procrastinate. I realise there may not be many choices of suitable professionals where you live, but it is probably at least worth looking into. I havnt always had things easy and I fully understand the negative way trauma can eat away at people and destroy lives, but often, once people come to terms with it, they can be free to move on and enjoy life again.

Some mental health conditions such as depression can also have a family, genetic link and medication may have a place in assisting those who are affected in this way. This stuff can really make a dramatic difference and your GP is probably a very good starting point..

Re: Economic policy

There are a few posts/sites around and they all state similar figures of $19.5 mill.

I had one session some years ago.
Lady was that awful that I felt like physically assualting her.
So it's not for me.
Talking to someone isn't going to change the World to make it a place that I want to happily live in.
All the greedy people.
Destruction of the natural environment.
Violence against women and children.
Are not things that only exist in my head.
I don't like human nature and I've had enough and am happy to move on

Re: Economic policy

One session is hardly giving it a go.

Talking to somebody is not going to change the world, true. What talking to somebody can do is encourage you to look at things from a different perspective and possibly come to terms with things you can't change.

I fully understand where you are coming from with this comment. In rural communities, you don't always have a lot of choice as to who you can see. Psychiatrists are not all the same. There are very good ones and not so helpful ones. Some suit some people and not others. It can be hard to find " The right " one for you and one bad experience can put you off for life.

If you can make enquiries and find the right person for you it can make a dramatic difference to the way you approach life. A GP may also be able to give advice on medications. They really do assist some people.

I share your views on all of the negative things that are going on in the world, but its nothing new. Bad stuff has always been happening..... Just ask the Jews who went through the war years.

We cant change any of this, but we can live our own lives in the way we choose too and experience life with a mindset of our choice. My wife became fully blind in her late 20's. It was a major trauma for her and our family, but after coming to terms with the loss of sight ( took several years ) she built a new life. Yes it was a smaller world. We had to sell the Nursery & Landscaping business she had built up over many years and the loss of income had major financial impacts on the family. She had to rely on others for transport and assistance with shopping, cleaning etc.

The new life she has built revolves around community service and assisting others. She is on a disability advisory committee to council. She has taken part in trials for Royal Society for the Blind on new adoptive technologies. She has been on local school parent committees and has spent many years playing music for dances for intellectually disabled people. Her big thing at the moment is involvement in a local organisation that provides training to disabled and elderly people on basic modern technologies. How to use facebook, smart phones and other similar technologies. She uses a guide dog to walk around and makes good use of all of the free local transport services, NDIS etc. Basically she is never home, has a huge circle of friends and lives a much fuller life than many sighted people..

We cant change the world we live in but we can choose how we live in it.

Is there an online support group you can talk to?

I have a medical condition that has only been recognised since 1940.....and sadly not yet by the whole medical profession.  I've seen a few doctors and the first GP was so dismissive that while I'm not a violent person, I would have gladly hit her with a blunt instrument had it been possible.  Other doctors have been sympathetic but have also admitted they don't know much about the issue so they have not been all that helpful.  It's a condition that currently has no cure.

I found a closed online group of fellow sufferers and signed up with them, and exchanging info with them has helped.  The most common issue we face is educating the medical profession (along with hoping for that longed for cure).

There may be someone out there online that you can connect with.
