I was also a bit stunned to hear that schools do not even know what funding they will be getting next year...
2 things:
Wasn't that in reference to what extra funding they will be getting as per the Gonski report.
No-one knows what funding is being given to them for the following year until May. Everyone puts their requirements in March/April and then the govt hands down the budget. That's the way it always works.

watched q & a, compared it to what pyne said on q & a last july.
this long piece written, at that time, by a person who, it would appear, knows the truth of the matter.
A history of misinformation: Pyne spreads curriculum myths
Error 1: the Australian history curriculum was written by one person
Error 2: the Australian History curriculum has a deliberate ideological bias
Error 3: the Australian History curriculum does not teach the foundations of Western civilisation and “our Judeo-Christian ethic”
Error 4: the history curriculum is not “national” because not all states have adopted it

Yeah I know what you mean.
Politics is only interesting when someone else takes snippets out of context and then sensationalises them on talk back radio or on blog/opinions posts in simple enough language that can be repeated ad nauseum eh?
