Why oh why are they always so OLD?
Always? ?:| John Paul II was 58.
What do you know about this new Pope, Mum? Why do you think he may not be good for the Church? Purely based on his age?
What do you know about him?

I like the name he chose, after St. Francis of Assisi. As Az posted earlier, it gives us an idea of what type of pope he intends to be.
"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" B-)

I'm not Catholic, but John Paul was not a recent pope was he, taking over as pope in 1978 and yes he was one of the few younger ones.
I have read about this new pope and that he was one who refused to have his own 'limo' service instead travelling by public transport, and lived in his own flat cooking his own meals. He seems to be more of the people than more recent popes.
And note that I did say that Pope Frances looks healthier than his predecessors so hopefully his health will stand him in good stead at what must be a demanding role.
I wonder if he will change the churches attitudes towards homosexuality and contraception and address the issue of sexual abuse by catholic priests? Hopefully some of the wealth held in Vatican City can be spread among the poorer parishioners in need.
I'm just glad it's over. Does the Anglican church get all this hoopla when they have a change of head honcho?
Or the Mormon Church........is it televised all over the world and front page news?

Did you mean the Vatican State or the Holy See?

The Vatican, the Holy City. I've not been there but have seen so many photos and read articles about the great wealth stored inside, priceless artworks, sculptures, gold etc.
Regardless of the title of the location I'm sure people would know what I meant.
I'm not the only one to have this opinion, many of the letters to the editor in online newspapers I've been reading share exactly the same views.
It's not just me.

Errrrr, I meant the Archbishop of Canterbury actually. He is the religious head of the Church of England even though he has no formal authority outside that jurisdiction. However he is recognised as the symbolic head of the Church of England.

Did anyone happen to share information regarding the Holy See's budget report from last year?
What do you think should happen to the priceless artworks and should it be limited to the 'Vatican' only?
What institution feeds more of the poor and operates more hospitals than the CC?.
