Entertainment world: Deaths in 2020

Wow, Des O'Connor. He was a legend. Not into his music in a big way but he was a great guy! I remember back in the 70s, Des and Max Bygraves were the kings of the variety shows. They ruled!

Des O'Connor

Entertainer Des O'Connor has died at the age of 88, his agent has confirmed.

The comedian, singer and TV host died on Saturday following a fall at his home in Buckinghamshire just over a week ago.

He was known for hosting his own chat show, as well as Take Your Pick and Countdown - and for his friendship with Morecambe and Wise.

In a statement his agent said he was "well loved by absolutely everybody" and "loved life".

His long-time agent and family friend Pat Lake-Smith described him as the "ultimate entertainer" and said he had been recovering from the fall before his condition had suddenly deteriorated.

She said: "He was a joy to work with - he was talented, fun, positive, enthusiastic, kind and a total professional. He loved life, and considered enthusiasm almost as important as oxygen."

Robert Conrad was a great TV staple. Also going to the local video store, there were always a few of his films in the action section.

Thomas Allen Brown

Tim Brown aka Timothy Brown aka Timmy Brown

. I remember watching him in The Pacific Inferno which starred Jim Brown and a B grade action classic Zebra Force. A good actor and a singer too. I knew about his football career but didn't know about that part.

Re: Entertainment world: Deaths in 2020

RIP Gwendolyn Oliver (Later Gwendolyn Wesley) of The Ritchie Family (Original line-up)

The Ritchie Family was reformed in 2016, By Cassandra and Cheryl who after years of hearing and seeing others perform their hits, eventually decided it was time to regroup. This was done with the the introduction of singer, songwriter and choreographer, Renée Guillory-Wearing, who took the place of Gwendolyn Wesley.

Gwendolyn Wesley (21 July 1949 - 27 November 2020) has passed away. She was a singer who was part of the duo Gwen and Bruce, of the band Honey and the Bees and of the original lineup of the Ritchie Family from 1975 to 1978. She married trumpeter Fred Wesley. Gwen was a member of the first incarnation of the iconic disco act The Ritchie Family, remember ‘The Best Disco in Town’. The group was conceived by producer team Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo and Richie Rome, who also were behind the Village People. Some quarrels in 1977 actually led to the entire group being replaced by three new girls, which also resulted in different sound. Even though they still had hits ("American Generation") they were never quite as successful as the original trio".

Re: Entertainment world: Deaths in 2020

Very sad to learn of Rudy Salas passing away. I have fond memories of the band Tierra and their hit "Together". I had both the 45 and the LP.

Rudy Salas, who was a member of the Latin R&B band Tierra and soul group El Chicano, died on Tuesday, Tierra announced. He was 72.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rudy Salas, the leader and co-founder of Tierra, early this morning,” the group posted on Facebook on Tuesday. “We have lost our rock, our creative spirit, husband, father, grandfather (and soon to be great-grandfather), uncle, brother and leader of Tierra whose history spans nearly 5 decades. Millions have enjoyed Tierra’s music and we are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and family.”

In 1972, Salas played guitar for El Chicano along with his brother Steve Salas, who was a vocalist. The next year, the two brother co-founded Tierra with original members Bobby Navarrete, Joey Guerra, Steve Falomir, Philip Madayag and Andre Baeza. The group recorded their first self-titled album that year and then went on to publish 14 more records, the most recent being in 2017.
