Equlity. Good thing or not?

This is a simple poll (or is it );-)B-)]:)

The question is:-

Should all people be equal?

Give ita bit of thought before you answer.

If you answer Yes

Why did you answer in the affirmative?

Describe the :"equal" person that everyone should modeled on

If you answer No

Why did you answer in he negative?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Equlity. Good thing or not?

In an equal society all people would be EQUAL and no specific extra facilities would need to be supplied.

If there were people unlike the rest of the people in that society it would not be equal.

What you are talking about, Poddy, is not equality, but uniformity. There is a difference.  5+5 =10, but so do. 9+1, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5x2, 11-1 etc. etc. All different numbers, but all. in different combinations, adding up to the same thing.

as far as the concept of being the same...that won't happen. We are living breathing human beings .All individual and unique .Equality doesn't change that fact.

Re: Equlity. Good thing or not?

Iza, equality by definition means being equal, being equal means being the same.

By your own admission, in stating "All individual and unique." you have recognised that equality in the human race  is an illusion that some people aspire to but can never atain without relinquishing their indevidulaity. Even if they were able to do that they could not be equal to another human being.

Equality Is Not Sameness     by ishambat | March 19, 2012 at 05:58 pm

One of the longest-running errors in American society is that of equating equality with sameness. This error has been used and continues to be used for extremely destructive, invasive and malicious behaviors - such as for example forcing everyone to be the same person believing the same thing living the same life and exterminating anyone who is in any way different. In fact equality was never meant to mean sameness; and the use of the concept of equality to force sameness is a gross abuse of the concept of equality.

Equality means this: Equal rights, equal opportunities. That is it. It doesn't mean that everyone has to live the same life. It doesn't mean that everyone has to dress the same way, think the same way, speak in the same tone of voice, or believe the same errors. It doesn't mean that nobody can be distinct, or special, or eccentric, or different from people around them. Equality means: Equal rights, equal opportunities. That is it.

Uniformity= sameness=equality.

Is the elusive end result the magical "10" in your example TGSE?

Should the infinate number of equasions that result in the Magical "10" be the Holy Grail of equality?

e·qual·i·ty  /iˈkwälitē/

NounThe state of being equal, esp. in status, rights, and opportunities.

The condition of being equal in number or amount.

Synonyms parity - par - evenness - sameness - uniformity

Exactly,  . in status, rights, and opportunities - not necessarily having uniformity in all aspects, as in the concept you described in #55:

In an equal society all people would be EQUAL and no specific extra facilities would need to be supplied.

If there were people unlike the rest of the people in that society it would not be equal.

I guess some do indeed, just want to make their own point according to their hobby horse
