Mining conglomerates, developers and other speculators and investors must be rubbing their hands in glee, now that so many obstacles to their expansion, like human settlement, endangered animal species, sensitive enviromnent concerns have been wiped out so convenently by a spectacular "act of nature"...

A statement about the 480 million animals killed in NSW bushfires since September

Using that formula, co-author of the original report Professor Chris Dickman estimates that 480 million animals have been affected since the bushfires in NSW started in September 2019. This figure only relates to the state of NSW. Many of the affected animals are likely to have been killed directly by the fires, with others succumbing later due to the depletion of food and shelter resources and predation from introduced feral cats and red foxes.
I wonder why would the foxes and cats survive the inferno that other animals did not. Foxes could hide in their burrows, but they would still suffocate. Cats would have a little chance. Those who would survive would also suffer from lack of food and water.

Foxes and cats are far more mobile and agile than most native fauna.
Plenty of carrion around, some of which would still provide some moisture.
