Facebook goes down, users in shock without it

THE world’s popular social networking site of Facebook has gone down tonight across the world, leaving users unable to log in.

Users have hit Twitter to express their angst about the site being down, after they got this error message from Facebook.

It is not clear what is causing the outage yet.

Re: Facebook goes down, users in shock without it

The more I look at my computer, the less I like the Internet. Places like Facebook, Twitter and who knows what else are taking away the art of communicating in the real world. Hardly anyone writes real letters anymore or even sends a personal email. Family and friends are posting telegraph style messages, jokes, games and other nonsense, but no real communication about their real life.

I like the technology about being able to do my banking from home or google some information and read the news, because of impaired hearing, but all the rest of Internet has robbed people of a life that is precious and that is to really communicate and care for one another by talking to people as if you were standing in front of them.

I love getting snail mail or a personal phone call from family and friends. Unfortunately this trend has been eliminated by cyberspeak on the Internet or smartphone, posting some copy and paste picture with funny words to it, and most people get overly excited when they win some silly computer game and then boast about it.

I recently got my writing pad out and started writing real letters. Who wants to have a bet that I will never get a return letter by Post.

All is not lost Erica.

I don't do Facebook.  Facebook is mostly a game of one upmanship.  Twitter is pretty good and helps you keep up with all sorts of interests, subjects and politics.

Text messaging is great... for messaging.  Such as, going to be there at 8, see you there.

Letter writing is difficult.  I'm happy to type a letter and post it but to put pen to paper is lovely to look at and and to keep.  I have some handwritten letters from people that have passed and I wouldn't let them go.

I'm ashamed.  The only pen writing I conduct now is the shopping list.

Although I do have an old suitcase of handwritten letters between the ex and me whilst he was awaySmiley Happy (not prison, Defence).  And some of the childrens' to me when separated. Kept as sort-of-diary entries of experiences of the time.

I love it, how you are all bagging out people who can't manage without social media on a chat room 🙂

Lind9650 .... I  agree with you.   There is no facebook or twitter in this house as we decided not to use it, even though my husband is a computer specialist and he has to use it where he works, but only for the business side.

Socially, we stay in contact with our friends by email as well as hand written letters and cards and they write back both ways also.

It works for us, but I can appreciate (as well as sympathise) that it is addictive for the majority as well as useful and meaningful to them.

Re: Facebook goes down, users in shock without it

I've been having an argument with myself over the last week about the internet.

It all boils down to........I've become lazy !!

At our last house, I'd sit outside with a cuppa and read the paper most mornings, now I read the paper online, inside sitting at the computer. I would much rather be outside than sitting at the computer and the thing that's stopping me is......having the paper delivered here would mean that I would have to walk down to the letterbox, a couple of kls.

It would do me the world of good to do this and like I said, it's only laziness that's stopping me.

That's just ONE thing that I could change for the better and I'm sure I would get so many more things done, whether it's stuff around the house or enjoyable things like reading/painting etc.

I seem to waste a lot of time on here (not cs in particular, the internet), reading about one thing leads to looking at something else and on to something else and before I know it the mornings gone.

I'm pretty sure there would be others who can't believe how much time they waste, too.

Time to change my computer habits me thinks !
