Faces of the future declare web war

Re: Faces of the future declare web war

A few days ago I read that several coal mines where shutting down because of oversupply and price drop. They are not making enough profit to sustain working labour. China is buying less coal, diversifying to more clean power to reduce the air pollution in their big cities.

Fine if that was true, but why do they want to buy the permits to mine in Australia?

Today I found this.

There are other people fighting to keep our land clean and for food production.

I hope the farmers will win.

Now you mention pits and storage.

Feasible, maybe, that is NOT a reason to stop the mine.
Better come up with a better argument than that if you want to win.

How often are their major rain events there ?

Its not the NT or FNQ.

Mate, how about you go and read the studies done by the experts. You are severley stretching my sense of humour.

No it isn't far NQ but I can think of two major floods in the 15 years I've been living out here. Both of them caused widespread flooding across gunnedah, moree, weewaa. walgett.  These rain events will have cause the pits, if they existed, to overflow in to the water catchment areas. It may only be a 1 in 100 year rain event that does the damage but that event might just be next year or the year after, and the the next 1 in 100 year event might not wait for a century to pass, it might be in the next decade. Personally I don't think we should be taking the risk with the water tables. As for the water in the final void, that's water that should have been available to agriculture and now it's not and never will be.

I also think wiping out wildlife and destroying Aboriginal artifacts that should remain in situ is a good enough reason to stop this mine.

I think what mining has done to towns in Qld is a good enough reason not to allow this mine here.

Actually, I'm curious Vic, what do think would be a good reason not to allow this mine?

Obvioulsy you don't care about the wildlife, the environment, the people who will be financially disadvantaged, the possible far reaching damage to the water supply,  the crops that will be contaminated by air borne pollutants, the increase in health problems to everyone that lives along the coal rail corridor,  the fact that this mine was allowed in the first place by huge palm greasing and corruption, the disrespect to to our culturally significant sites and traditional owners, the barely viable economic status, the damage to a 20 million astronomy industry, the increase in the cost of living that many people can't afford and they aren't getting any benefit from the mining industry.
