Did anyone watch "First Contact" on SBS last night and/or the reaction on NITV? It's a three part series in which a group of people who have had no contact with Indigenous people spend time in various Aboriginal communities over a period of 28 days. I was shaking my head at the rudeness and ignorance of some of the participants.

It hurts me that someone can still think this way - but doesnt surprise I spose 😞
My sister has a scan on the 15th of December to see if the liver tumours have got less - there was 10 - you need 3 to have surgery
If my butt not banned I will come in and let you know
Cheers
It saddens me that some people will continue to blame the aboriginal community for all their woes and expect everyone to just get over it as if they have no feelings and the actions of the white policies had no lasting consequences.

Rabbit, if you are having trouble at government departments, having things thrown at your house, appear dubious at motels, perhaps it is not other people who are at fault?

how did I know that it would come down to me?
I have no trouble at Government Departments - where did you get that from?
Of course, I exagerated the egg throwing. To be trueful no more than 5-6 times were eggs thrown at the house. Sometimes it was worse things than eggs, but I would be bleeped if I said what it was. It's funny that nothing like that happened before the new tenants moved in. Of course it was us that was the probelm. I'll just go and tell my wife that we were the problem - but, I warn you, she won't be as nice as me.
I am not the only one in that neighbourhood that had problems with the new tenants - everyone did ! That's probably why they (the new tenants) were moved soon afterwards. Deny it all you want. IT HAPPENED!

lobs, I apologise to you. My comments were only made on the basis of the program we were commenting on. Did you also read my comments on all the other stolen children - it wasn't JUST Aboriginal children.
I still stand by my view, and the comments made by the Aborignal leaders on Insight, and that is :
The Aboriginal people have to make an effort too. It's not a one way street.
It is very encouraging to see the efforts that those groups have and still are putting into making things right, but as the women showed that had full strength alcohol banned, it was THEY that stood up and GOT IT DONE and not because of any funding or input from the Government. When asked why can that effort could not be duplicated around Australia, the Aboriginal speaker said "well, it's difficult because there are many tribes and clans out there". - WHAT DIFFERENCE SHOULD THAT MAKE? Was he saying that some tribes / clans would never accept interference from their women?

I just can't understand the lack of empathy. One bad neighbour is just that.

I think he said there are MANY.

We know it wasn't just aboriginal people who had their children stolen. Nobody ever claimed it was.
That should not be used to divert this discussion though or to minimise the subject.
In life for most people is not as easy done as said, not so easy to just get over it.
Nobody ever did say it was a one way street either but that comment indicates it is a one way street where the aboriginal people have to make all the effort while the rest sit back and watch while throwing stones.

I have empathy for ALL people who are at a disadvantage - white and black.
But, when all is said and done, what can I do about it? Apart from making donations - and that has already been proven to not be the answer in the case of Aboriginals. THEY have to make an effort too - like those hand-picked groups on the program. Now take offence at my hand-picked comments. Of course they were hand-pickd to facilitate the programs goals. To be a true representation the program should have taken the volunteers to good and bad sections. Maybe they did, but it wasn't shown in the program.
The questions:
Were the volunteers chosen to facilitate the programs goals? Yes.
Were the Aboriginal people chosen to faciliate the programs goals? Yes.
Would the volunteers have answered Stan's carefully tailored questions to each of them in any other way than the Producers had instructed them or what people expected them to say? No.
I THINK ALL PEOPLE SHOULD BE TREATED EQUALLY. IS THAT A CRIME? IF SO, I PLEAD GUILTY YOUR HONOUR.
