I have worn glasses since I was 14 - so no change there. Sailed through menopause with no symptoms at all - had to get a blood test to even know I was on the other side. Lost weight and diabetes with it. I still work full time (even though my job is not the best)
I am fitter now than 10 years ago. I am 57 next week, and I still think young.
However, my sister who is 18 months older than me is a mess. Grossly overweight, had to retire early as a result of multiple medical problems. She looks 10 years older than her 58 years, and 20 years older than me - I was told this last weekend by someone who met both of us for the first time that day. Yeah I know, I am a braggard 😛
But I still see my mum when I look in the mirror 😄

And I forgot to add - if you dont use it you lose it - is true

I thought it was graceful and gradual for me, until one morning I looked in the mirror while actually wearing my glasses OMG 😮

Feisty Side Of Fifty
4 Fabulous Reasons Why Life After 50 is Better Than Ever!
Ask most any woman over 50 to rate her sense of wellbeing and she’ll probably tell you she’s doing just fine…thank you very much!
Although it’s long been society’s perception that we fade away—shrinking deep into the margins of society once we’re no longer fertile—in many ways the opposite is true. It’s no surprise to any menopausal women reading this that we become more outspoken, more self-directed, more self-assured, and have a growing desire to make a difference by leaving our own mark upon the world. Even better, numerous studies are proving this—we become happier with age!
As a refresher to those on the feisty side of fifty and a primer to those who haven’t yet made it to this life-affirming age and beyond, here are 4 reasons why the old gal is doing better than ever:
#1 Our sense of humor improves. We don’t take life or ourselves so seriously anymore and begin to notice and enjoy life’s little ironies. In fact, once we pass through the rocky peri-menopausal period, menopause seems to ratchet up the power of our funny bone. And it better… with our body parts rapidly sinking south, it’s good to share a laugh with a friend who knows just how you feel!
#2 We’ve got perspective. Gone are the days of sweating all of that small stuff. We’ve “been there and done that” to such an extent that very few circumstances are going to throw us for a loop. We know to let go of most of the non-essentials of life and focus on the bigger picture, making our lives far more meaningful… and joyful.
#3 The perception of time becomes heightened. As our days on the planet become numbered we treat time with greater respect. “If not now, when?” becomes a recurring theme that propels us to explore reason #4—our unique creativity.
#4 We get creative. It almost seems that when we’re no longer reproductively fertile, our emotional and spiritual creativity grows. We strive to become our authentic selves and align with our own life’s purpose. Hormonal changes decrease the need for pleasing others and drive us to discover what fulfills us as unique human beings. Again, adding meaning and joy to our lives.
There are plenty of additional reasons to celebrate life on the far side of 50. I’m sure you can come up with several of your own. So why not take a moment to consider your personal reasons for being happier and more fulfilled at this time in your life. What you focus on expands and, by recognizing the many blessings of age, life will only get better.
And that’s a pretty feisty and festive way to celebrate the far side of 50!

Donna, I'm getting older day by day and each day is a new one.I imagine that it will keep going that way IF I am lucky no doubt with some age related problems the older I get.

I was at the shops the other day and admiring a bright red Harley Davidson bike. The owner came up and we got talking, she said that she had treated herself to it to celebrate her 70th birthday. She said that when she hit 68 she was fed up with the Nanna look and decided to grow old disgracefully. She is not at all concerned that all of her kids are in an uproar. I am seriously considering this option.B-) Only problem is I can't ride!
You can always start.
I wonder if its just the bike the kids are in an uproar about?
perhaps they are concerned if she gets in with the wrong group they will lead her astray]:)
That is nothing more accelerating and free to the spirit then when you open the throttle wide and the engine roars into life.
